its just ol'skool thinking that cousins marriages are more successful than say marriage from outside the family.. which isnt true anymore. If cousin marriage dont workout for some reason.. u could find a split in families... so to avoid this split, the couple keep on working towards better relationship with eachother for the rest of their lives, without ever being happy.
if one has no choice but to marry someone within family, i'd say find someone whose like really not first or second or even third cousin..
but the main reaosn for cousin marriage si that the fmailies know each other well. i don'tthink 4th cousins and hteir families would really know eahc other well. os if they were to do this they might as well marry outside hte family.
