I do family history and have also found alot of inter-marriages in the 1900’s. Brother and sister marrying Sister and brother, (not related) but children of these marriages children married each other, or relatives of either side.
Not really closely connected, but possibility exists to find a mutual Great grandparent or so.
Sinse doing family history of one line of mine, from a small farming county in Illinois, I think after the past 100 years or so, all of the families are connected by blood or by various marriages. Back then, no birth control, most had 7 or 8 kids…and there you have it. Sisters and brothers marrying Brothers and sisters…and then First cousins marrying into the same family and etc.
DNA wouldn’t be exact..but some sections of the geonome would probobly be the same as their neighbors, even today.
Definatley a place that I would look for a match if I needed a transplant, platlets or bone marrow.

it's the other way around: if a lot of cousin-marriages have taken place then the chances of disease actually decrease, because over generations a selection has taken place whereby actualy the 'better' genes survive and the disease genes vanish.
marrying a cousin means that ur child has 1/16(= i think) of his genes homozygotous. so the chance of recessive diseases is a bit increased........however if cousin-marriages is normal over a lot of generations the disease-genes have been selected out of the population......and cousin-maariage only gives a very slight increase of chances on disease.

Hee hee...you'd have to be some sort of crop...or perhaps a small animal on the galapagos islands for that to happen.
Since we are a industrialized/technologically advanced society, we are in many ways going against the currents of evolution. For instance, nobody here is going to end up with their gene line extinct because they arent tall enough (better genes) to pick fruit from tall trees.
Or because they dont have the claws (better genes) necessary to make tools to survive.
Even moderately retarded individuals have a chance to live a full life and reproduce even.
Hence continuing the gene pool.
I gathered from several sources that cousin marriages are 'mukroo'. That is, not overtly banned but disliked. Like tobacco usage.
There are three levels of mukroo ... from strongly discouraged to mildly discouraged.
This is strongly discouraged.
I still study family history.
Noted that majority of my ancestors lived to become elderly. Majority lived into their 80's. Got a birth cert. from an ancesstor the other day.
She was born in 1836 and died in 1922. She was 86 years old. 3 months and 1 day.
Thats pretty old. Older than I can imagine, especially in the 1920's.
Imagine being born in 1836 and dying in 1922. Imagine the changes in the world over that time. I can only imagine. I mean going from farming with an Ox to gasoline engines, nearly.
