My Brother did cousin marriage and had very normal kids. They are way more sharper then the all other even older kids in the family.

That is a very funny question.

Re: Cousin Marriage

Medical research shows that the risk for abnormal children is only slightly higher in couples that are cousins.

Not all cousin couples have abnormal children. ** BUT** it does become MORE OF A RISK **in families that practice **excessive in-breeding or cousin marriages.

I don't think our religion would allow cousin marriages if they were morally wrong or sinful. About half of the US and many parts of Asia and Europe allow cousin marriages.

In the END....what it all boils down to is...............PERSONAL PREFERENCE. Some people are okay with it. Some people are repulsed by it. As long as the couple (cousins OR Non-cousins) is happy and have a healthy marriage......I say, "To each his own".

Re: Cousin Marriage

So where did this no no come from. lol

My aunt married outsider no relation at all and she got an abnormal kid.

Anything could happen to anyone it's not due to cousin marriage.

Re: Cousin Marriage

Medically, it takes seven generations of intermarriages before any prominent genes develop. In the Jewish culture where intermarriage is extremely common amongst the religious groups for centuries, the prominent nose is one of the genetic 'mutations' to occur.

Marrying your cousin increases the risk factor by 1-2% more than being non related and even then the risk is only 4-6% (as opposed to non related couples risk of 2-3%.)

Albert Einstein and Charles Darwin, renowned intellectuals, both married cousins so it is not something done by inbreds or the jahil.

The prophet Muhammads daughter Hazrat Fatima was married to the Prophets first cousin, Hazrat Ali.

With the current trend of love marriages, the odds of a cousin couples children marrying within the family is reduced, decreasing the odds of any potential risks in future born children.

Go marry a cousin if you want...its ok...the chances of a haunchback baby are slim!!

Re: Cousin Marriage

LOL for medical research. Agar aisa hota to quran main zaroor hota. Who know that abnomalities are due to cousin marriage or something else.

Re: Cousin Marriage

LOL NAmaan.. that was a good answer.

Re: Cousin Marriage

i like the peripheral vision we non in-breds have.

Re: Cousin Marriage

ok well we marry cousins, but have you seen the ratio for abnormal children being born for the western society....they dont marry cousins at all, in any sense.....so why do gorey have disabilities...its nothing to do with genes all the time. in fact science does say marrying your cousin doesnt dramatically increase the chances of any abnormality..in fact its bare minimal..and we believe in allah and whatever he gives us is always a blessing....

Re: Cousin Marriage

Re: Cousin Marriage

please give me the test name which we should do before marriage with cousin.

Re: Cousin Marriage

Its more of an interview although you can have DNA testing done too. A genetic counsellor takes a very detailed family history - marriages, intermarriages, diseases, troubles, ages of deaths, etc etc. Then they calculate odds and probabilities of having a child with any inherited disease or trouble.

If you go for the DNA test, they look for genetic maladies, missing or extra chromosomes and certain diseases or defects which are mapped and known. For example, Downs syndrome is "trisomy 21", meaning that there are three rather two of the chromosome 21.
