Court blow for Nawaz Sharif

This coming a day after he was forced to admit that he did in fact make an agreement on his exile - with the Saudi’s at least.

**Court blow for Pakistan’s ex-PM **

A court in Pakistan has ruled that cases of alleged corruption against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif may be opened again. The cases were closed at the government’s request and Mr Sharif was sent into exile in December 2000. Mr Sharif said this week that the government’s request to reopen the cases was an attempt to prevent him for returning to Pakistan. He has filed a petition in the Supreme Court pleading for his right to return. Attorney General Malik Abdul Qayum, who represents the government, told the Supreme Court in a recent hearing that Mr Sharif had left the country for 10 years under a deal reached between him and the government, with the Saudi government as the guarantor. Legal experts believe the government has moved to reopen the corruption cases in anticipation of a Supreme Court verdict that may allow him to return. The ruling means Mr Sharif could be arrested if he did.

The cases were initiated by the National Accountability Bureau in 2000, after Mr Sharif’s government was overthrown by Gen Pervez Musharraf in a coup in October 1999. A special anti-terrorism court convicted Mr Sharif on charges of hijacking and terrorism and passed a sentence of life imprisonment. The ousted premier was charged with endangering the lives of Gen Musharraf and nearly 200 passengers on a commercial flight. Gen Musharraf was returning to Pakistan from Sri Lanka and Mr Sharif was said to have issued orders preventing his plane from landing in Karachi. The plane was eventually able to land and Mr Sharif was overthrown. Mr Sharif and several of his family members were jailed. Mr Sharif has been the most ardent critic of Gen Musharraf’s government. He heads a new opposition alliance that seeks to prevent Gen Musharraf from becoming president for another term.

Re: Court blow for Nawaz Sharif

It seems that government has felt that supreme court will allow the Sharif brothers to come back, hence it is now re-opening the cases against them (and closing against BB, waah Pakistan)

Re: Court blow for Nawaz Sharif

^^^ LOL

the "offer" is for everyone who want to ride with MUSH.

Re: Court blow for Nawaz Sharif

Its retarded. Why were the cases closed in the first place. He should have a death sentence on his head for the crimes he's committed. The minute he or BB or any of these other jackweeds come back to Pakistan, they should be arrested on the spot and tried in court. Its common sense. You break the law, you go to court.

Any patriotic I-want-to-help-Pakistan type citizen would not be demanding the courts to close a case on him. And these people call themselves leaders? They have no respect for the very law they want enforced on their opponents.

How do people not see through this? And yet so many pakistanis are supporting his anti-Musharraf APC league. Pathetic. Khud tho koi farishta nahi hai, aur pakistani quom challi hai usse support karney. Even the maulvis. Tsk.

Re: Court blow for Nawaz Sharif

Yr man Atlaf was also reported complaining while talking to MQM ( Lahore) that no one in Pakistan yells about his coming back to Pakistan , nation is only worried about BB and Nawaz .

Oh poor lad !

Re: Court blow for Nawaz Sharif

Nawaz Sharif the leading coward of Pakistan. He is now castigating BB for trying to make a deal with Musharraf to get her cases cancelled, when he did the same himself in Dec 2000, and escaped to exile in Saudi Arabia. He is the most incompetent buffoon that has ever ruled this country!

Re: Court blow for Nawaz Sharif

He does not need KY. He is strong man. Can take the pain (Ok, I heard that)

Re: Court blow for Nawaz Sharif

BB you go and fight for Gay rights in USA, don't bother about Pakistan.
