you know that musical thing that we can hang over the baby’s cot.. its got different toys hanging and rotates as well ..
Is that any good or just a waste of money? A few friends suggested, I should definitely get one.. I am not so sure .. unless it has some educational value ? I tried looking at several of them at the shops and the only value I saw them bringing was perhaps the baby learning to concentrate and focus better on things etc ..
Am I missing out on somthing huge here? If you guys recommend that I should buy it, then how many do you get? like, wont the child get bored with the same thing rotating about for days and days
We have one for our little girl. It doesn’t really have any educational value as such, but it helps the baby to fall asleep. At least in the first few months. Now that she is more than 7 months old we don’t really use it anymore.
we bought it. it is useful for the first couple of months. my baby started to pull it really hard when he was around five months we don’t use it anymore.
Thats what I had for midget. I hated it cuz Instead of putting him to sleep…it would keep him up. He would talk to it and then start crying askiing us to take him out. Soi just took it off.
With genie…again… She would talk to it for hours and fight sleep. But she would stay in her crib and just play with it for an hour straight… I would take it off when I was putting her down for her nap… And put it back on when I had to work…she would play with it and entertain herself.
Both kids loved chewing on the pull down animals.
So I’d say buy something reasonable. Once the baby can sit up, it’s useless cuz of safety issues. So u are looking at max use of 4 months.
We had this because it matched our nursery decor :cb:
He enjoyed it first few months but then started to reach for it to grab it.. We removed it when we moved into our new place and never looked back. In the beginning babies can only see black n white so this was useful since he started to recognize it pretty early above his head.
So, does it help at all improve a child’s concentration and recognition abilities? like taking interest in colors, learning to focus on moving objects etc etc? any educational value there, in your opinion?
I did like a few at Toys r Us and Mother care , but I dont wanna spend on useless things coz then I wouldnt know what to do with them in a few months time ! Plus they are expensive stuff ..
if its got any kind of educational value then , maybe we will see this spend differently
Hand eye cooridination I guess? When they reach out and try to grab at em…
Music can be soothing though that’s a hit or a miss…any kinda noise was distracting to midget for sleep time and genie would just dance to it…even as a baby.. Neither slept to it
why not buy second hand? Loads of parents buy toys second hand cuz at this age, these kinda toys don’t get “played” with but rather looked at more… So don’t really get physically used and look brand new.
yeah that sounds like a good idea khawa ..I think i will do that , sales are about to begin anyway and I will keep an eye out for something bright and colorful ..
I was talking to another friend and she suggested that she had gotten those little muslim souvenirs from Saudi like key ring that had Allah , Muhammad, names of Allah , kaaba , masjid etc ..
So she did buy a cot mobile and initially she used it with the tiny stuffed toys , after a few weeks she just covered the toys with various bright colored crepe paper or cloth so the child could focus on colors and finally after a few weeks she hung those key rings on to the mobile , so the baby will start recognizing Islamic stuff ..
I loved the idea actually, now I am thinking I will get one and customize it to my needs and what I want the baby to learn .. what do you think?
No harm in it ofcourse… Just wondering if the.mobile will.go round due to the weight of the key rings?
Otherwise… I find it trying too hard. It’s a mobile man. How long will it last? By the time a kid actually starts to understand shapes etc…its WAY past the mobile.age.
U can get maybe a plastic book with kabaa etc for the kid to enjoy as an 8 month old etc… But I just don’t see a 4 month old learning kabaa etc on a mobile.
We hardly use it. when our son was little, hubby said he wont be able to sleep in music so we never used it for sleeping purpose. Sometimes, when I am getting ready for work, I will get Yousuf dressed, put him in the crib and turn the mobile on, it sometimes help distract him for little bit, if he is not hungry or sleepy. We would have been perfectly fine without a mobile.
I had this one. Before having the baby I wanted one, more for the purpose of having a cute, well decorated crib.
After having the baby,I don’t think she was intrigued by it anymore once she was a few months old.She never fell asleep in the presence of music so we never used it for that purpose. It was more for her to be kept entertained for a few mins if I wanted to take a shower etc etc.
The baby spends enough time out of the crib to be educated and learn co-ordination and colors and stuff.I don’t see a specific purpose of the crib mobile other than providing soothing music and maybe relaxing them for a bit.It hardly gets use beyond 6 months of age,max I’d say.
Hmmm I see , alot of things mentioned here by Khawa , Lusi and chipsie are making sense … I guess I will just drop the idea of it all together .. coz honestly, I am not into music and neither want the kid enjoying music as soon as he is born !
So I guess we will just do without it , you guys are right, time outside the crib and once he grows a little In Shaa Allah , he will start observing stuff and thats when we can make conscious efforts to make him learn stuff ..
So the question is, when the baby is awake and playing about, what keeps em entertained? I mean he cant just be held all the time or be talked to all the time.. its cold and raining and horrible weather in my part of the world , so going out every day will be a task ..
I dont want him watching TV so early in life .. how do babies remain entertained then?
My baby would play by himself, he was happy if he was hearing our voices. But in first month or two, they are not up for long time periods. My baby loves our wall hangings, he can stare them for long time periods.
Place him near a window or somewhere he can see colorful pictures…my son is just shy of 8 weeks old and he looooovessss staring at the pics we have up on the wall. His swing also has these stuffed toy elephants dangling from it…when the swing oves the elephants move as well and he’s already trying to reach and grab them mA. He loves it. Sometimes i play surahs on the TV and he listens very intently, or baby rhymes/songs…he listens to those. Babies can be entertained by anything really. Just let him watch u do work and talk about what you’re doing…thats what i do when i have chores and carrying/playing with him isn’t an option.
Oh and the cot mobile can be useful…idk how much longer he’ll stay entranced by it tho…but he loves watching it spin + the music. Again, awesome for when i need to do work cos he stays entertained for a while.
CB you will be alone with the baby with no help so mobile or simple stuffed bright colored toys hanging in cot will be of great help to relax a bit, take shower or cleaning the house etc…after few weeks bring the hanging toys closer to baby so that he’ll try to grab them…
in my case my baby used to wakeup with music:smack: so i just hung them n he used to chat with them…
