Price of Milk dictated our choice last time I had to choose between Sam’s & Costco. Sams being 50 cents cheaper (and about a buck fifty cheaper than Albertsons & Safeway). At that time we had three toddlers in the house and that seemed like a great deal.
Now that our groceries and milk ration is cutting down, we are more interested in exploring Costco. Especially after someone told the Mrs. that they sell frozen parathay. Someone also proclaimed that they (Costco) sell kosher meat, which later turned out to be a false claim.
Which one (if any) do you guys use and why the preference?
Neither. Parents tried out Costco once because people were raving about how one can save so much in terms of money. Turned out that the prices were more or less the same compared to the regular grocery stores.
Besides why buy in so much bulk? It's not like we own a store where we could sell it off.
I agree with sadiyah....my parents also got membership pf costo just to get the winter tires changed for our cars. But it all comes down to same prices when you have to pay to renew the membership every year.
The 10 pound basmati rice there is about 3-4 dollars cheaper than the one at Desi store. My Indian friends who eat rice on a daily basis save around the price of the card a year just buying rice.
I also used to buy 24 pack V8 cans from Sams for around 10 dollars. That comes out to about 42 cents a can. Even Wal-Mart sell those for 60 and God forbid you walk into a safe way.
Though not all the things there are cheap but if the one you use often are; then it is not a bad deal, especially if the store is in your neighborhood.
not just that.. Costco has very good deals on Electronics from time to time.. like CF cards, cameras, DVD players etc.. u get decent prices without the MIR hassles..
Costco. Its cheaper plus we share the membership with another family and we get the rebate at the end of the year. So, its a win-win situation. Also as PA said really good deals on electronics, and fruits.
we got the costco membership, cos everyone was saying it so cheap so cheap. But I just went there only twice cos they only seem to sell garbage and junk food nothing that would interest us and its to much(quantity wise) it goes to waste.
My family goes to Costco, my mom tried BJs but wasn't very impressed. I've never been to BJs so I can't comment on that. But i personally like costco, it's cheaper cuz we seem to always buy things in a lot of quantity. Things like paper towels, bath tissue, detergents, bread and milk, cereal, waffles, orange juice and so much more. I think we must make on avg about 3 trips a month to Costco, obviously for different items though.
Like what PA said, I've also gotten good deals on a compact flash card for our digital camera, and other scan disk products.
been a Costco member for a few years... even though my wife and I only shop there three or four times a year, it does pay for itself in membership cost - the trick is to know what to buy and what to avoid.
At least in Canada, the fresh food items are just as expensive or more expensive at Costco as your local superstore... but if you want to stock up on long shelf life products including essential household supplies, toiletries etc.
Also, their coupon prices are almost unbeatable...
Lastly, with the executive membership or the Amex rebate card, it's even possible to get a rebate worth more than your membership cost at the end of the year.
or maybe he was collecting enough data to do a proper analysis. you cant make these judgements based on your last few shopping trips. long term trend matters.
- actually meant to start a new thread on Costco, but as always, I did a search first, and started posting… didn’t quite look at the post dates. My bad guys! - can’t blame me too much though… I’m sick these days, and lose track easily.
