Cost of living in UK

UK Guppies,

A friend of mine has received an offer to move to UK. He is married with kids.

What is a comfortable salary to live on in small town about 30 miles from London? How expensive are primary schools? What is income tax like in UK? Is 45k to 50k per year a resonable amount to live in?

:flower1:

Re: Cost of living in UK

40 - 50??? OH YEAH :)

These days most graduates are from anything as little as 10 grand to around 25-30. Trust me on that amount he should do fine.

Primary school expense? Would he have to pay for their education ?

Re: Cost of living in UK

I guess so… who else would pay?

Re: Cost of living in UK

Even with 2 kids and errrr… “non-stingy” lifestyle?

Re: Cost of living in UK

You can choose in the UK between free education provided by the state (and the quality depends on the local area you’re in) and private education funded from your own pocket.

Private education is usually higher quality.

Re: Cost of living in UK

He would only need to pay for his children's education at primary and secondary level if he wishes for them to be privately educated, as in schools not run by local city council. I think.

As for the earnings issuse, depends where he will be living and cost of housing in that area. Usually the outer London cities are ok, but I'm not too sure, everywhere down south is a bit pricey.

Re: Cost of living in UK

in a town outside the london

he'll be paying £900 to 1200 a month or a three to four bed house for rent
if they are buying, it depends on the mortgage

education is free...apart from some nursery

food, say 1 hundred to or so depending on what is bought ... petrol, say thirty/forty or so a week poss more for ork travel

the salary bracket youve sugessted is enough to live on

Re: Cost of living in UK

if he is he is earning 40 to 50K a year he should be fine

Re: Cost of living in UK

I think this town north-west of London... would that be towards Birmingham?

Re: Cost of living in UK

then it will cost a couple of pound to rent a house, and a pound a month for food

whats the name of the town?

Re: Cost of living in UK

lol

Is Birmingham that cheap?

Re: Cost of living in UK

oh BTW, what is an "entertainment allowance"?

Re: Cost of living in UK

it means they will pay for him to go to the pub and a couple of white wine spritzers and be entertained by a hijabi escort

as per Uncle Faulkers thread in Cafe last week

Re: Cost of living in UK

depends on how many kids. house rent is around £900-1200 plus council tax which again depends upon area and type of house. monthly utility bills should be around £150 all togather. in 1st few months its gonna be expansive living as he has to start everything from scratch. and monthly food expanses are around 200-300 (it can be more if eating out most of the times or have infants in family). for £40k-50K range at the end of the month he will bring about £2900-3200 in first few months then it gonna go down .. :bummer:. and if he is not “shoooQeen Mizaaj” then he can save around 1000-1200 per month.

Re: Cost of living in UK

^^^ he be right about the bills

plus about he will need to pay for skytv and ary or geo

Re: Cost of living in UK

^ and dun forget weekly visits to green street to buy mehndi, choorian etc etc.. which by the way ia damn expansive

Re: Cost of living in UK

Zombie.... mehndi and chooria are CHEAP especially in green street...

Zombie... dont get married...if you worry about these things!

Re: Cost of living in UK

Why are you friends with a married man with kids? Unless ofcourse, you are talking about your hubby and kids. Which raises another interesting question, do all women consider their husbands ‘friends’?

Re: Cost of living in UK

ahan... I will decide it myself ig they are cheap or expansive... 2nd thought nah I have no idea about these things so I take ur words for it.

Re: Cost of living in UK

But then he will be living in sin. Are you seriously suggesting that
