Cosmetic Confusion !

**The Requirement **: Say I dont use a foundation , just some blush. Want to give my face a lustrous /shimmery /glossy /glowy finish .. that could possibly come from a luminous face powder or mineralized product :konfused: ..right?

The Confusion: so the question is :

1- The sparkly pressed powders i have looked at so far are full of glitter ..while i am only looking for a fine shimmer and not glitter …

2- Someone said , forget a powder go for the MAC MSF , it will serve as a powder topping and will leave an excellent shimmery finish … how true is that?

Now I am freaking confused about whether I should be looking for a sparkling powder or MSF … can anyone tell me the difference and which one is better to achieve the above metioned requirement ..pllllllleeeeese help me

There's a difference between a achieving a "dewy" complexion and a shimmery glow.

The dewy effect can be brought by using pearlized foundation or primer.

The shimmer u talk about is done thru powder.. there are many mosiac colors that u could select from according to u're complexion.

Both look nice if u have very clear skin.. otherwise pearlized foundations and shimmering powders draw attention to large/open pores as well as marks.

Re: Cosmetic Confusion !

Try MAC strobe cream on it's own or mixed in with your moisturizer.

Re: Cosmetic Confusion !

Thanks ladies , but I didnt get what the Minerals do to the skin?
Eg i saw a few tutorials on MAC MSF's and thought they looked nice and shimmery ... cant they serve the purpose as well?

Gina any recomendations for a pearlized foundation?

Re: Cosmetic Confusion !

^MAC MSF (the shimmery ones) will make you look like a greasy mess. Most of them have quite prominent bits of glitter in them. On the cheeks only they are okay, if you have skin that stays matte.
MAC MSF Naturals are quite popular to use as foundation/powder; they have an added dimension to them and don't look the same as powder but it's still not enough for that 'shimmery' or 'dewy' look. However they do give a very smooooth looking finish with the 187 brush.

For the sort of look you seem to want, you're definitely better off with a liquid foundation or tinted moisturised mixed together with something to give a bit of shimmer. it will look much more natural.

Mix a pea-sized amount of strobe cream into u're regular foundation.. or Benefit's high beam.

Re: Cosmetic Confusion !

Strobe strobe strobe!

Re: Cosmetic Confusion !

but guys remember i said i dont wanna use the foundation … I need to sort to come close to creating a bit of sheen on my dry skin with the help of perhaps a luminous powder or something else … I tried laura mercier shimmer brick, it just doesnt blend well on my skin !

I have fairly dry skin and even tried using heavy moisturizers ! hence I am looking for something that is light and can blend well .. thats when someone recomended the MSF’s !

But the above recomendations are for foundation :hmmm:

Re: Cosmetic Confusion !

^CB we know!!! but as i said for the look you want, you can't get it with powders. or not any that i know of anyway.

If you don't believe me in regards to the MSF's just go to a store and get them to try one out. If you're using them on your cheeks only, it might be okay.

Personally, I don't know why your so averse to tinted moisturiser + strobe cream, or diluting a foundation with strobe cream. so much better for dry skin than using a powder and will give you the look you want.

Re: Cosmetic Confusion !

Hmmm wow you are good stoppit :salute: … thanks so much mate ..

nope not against foundation plus stobe cream … just that the other day I mixed a bit of strobe cream and my revlon color stay foundation and nothing happened ! I mean no sheen .. then I tried putting double the amount of strobe and tried again another day … I go out in the sun a bit of it shows , but nothing particularly great happens in normal light..

Got a friend who is an expert at makeup , to do it for me yet again thinking i might not be putting it right ! she was surprised , perhaps its my complexion and the skin that it just doesnt reflect no matter what i do

thats the reason I asked if MSF’s are capable of giving that sheen … but again i was scared to try it for the same reason you mentioned …

I have no shine what so ever on my freak skin :crying: I want some brightnes, some sign of life in it :crying: … should i pull my hair out :hmmm:

and they are always limited ed. but MAC glimmershimmer’s are always really popular. for highlighting or mixing with foundation.

Re: Cosmetic Confusion !

ok, after you cleanse, moisturise your skin, if you have oily/combination skin use a moisturiser that is light, otherwise the combination of that with the strobe will make you shine.

Use the following brush, it’s the 188 brush and buff the strobe cream in to your skin.
Face, Lip and Eye Brushes by MAC Cosmetics

Next, if you want to continue with the dewy look, use a cream blush, NARS multiple or a bobbi brown blush stick.

Re: Cosmetic Confusion !

Try mixing vanilla pigment, in to ur strobe cream/foundation or ur normal moisturizer

"warmed" was a limited edition MSF, ask at mac if they have something similar to it and try it out on ur skin.

Re: Cosmetic Confusion !

wow , great recomendations , thanks so much ladies ..

Stoppit, I was intially looking at MAC’s iridescent powder v/s NARS sparkling powder … from reviews I realized there are glittery more then shimmery ! so I got stuck again ..

CE, that sounds like an interesting idea, I will definitely do this on my next trip to MAC counter :cb:

CB you can easily get the dewy finish by using a illuminating moisturizer.. I love Stila's tinted moisturizer... I apply it and go over with under-eye concealer and powder.. the days I want to skin foundation.

U can ever dust some highlighter with a big powder brush over u're face after u're done with u're concealer and powder.

Benefit Glamazon
Benefit High Beam
Chanel Eclat Lumiere
Bobbi Brown shimmer compacts

Are all great!

Re: Cosmetic Confusion !

Thanks so much Gina, I will surely try it out… havnt seen Stilla around , will see where i can find them :@:

Will report back later of the progress on my super duper dull skin

Re: Cosmetic Confusion !

Stila can be found in Space NK stores, there's one in Liberty off Regent St.
