Correcting the little one

My youngest guy can be SO cute with the things he says…like this morning, he asked for “foo-boops” (fruit loops) for breakfast. I know he can say fruit and loops so I know it isnt a speech impediment…and I havent been able to bring myself to make him say it correctly, its just too cute lol. What do you think? Would you correct it or let it go?

Re: Correcting the little one

aww lol, so cute. I love it when kids speak like that when they can pronounce the word correctly but still do that..

Re: Correcting the little one

I think you should just let it go. He's probably doing in front of you and maybe not at school (if he does go to shool). If he knows how to say it correctly then it's better to leave it alone. :)

Re: Correcting the little one

let it go...let the kid find himself that whats correct!

otherwise you gonna confine his imagination and he will alwas gonna look up to you for the answer....in a way you are stopping creativity then.

let him color the sky, Pink! :biggthumb

Re: Correcting the little one

correct it.

Re: Correcting the little one

nyah dont correct it, but you keep pronouncing it correctly, he will eventually start saying it properly. Let kids be kids.

unless the issue is more severe, my bro in law as a kid could not make the 'sm' sound and instead used 'f' so smile would be smile..and well smuckers would be..

he grew out of it though

Re: Correcting the little one

Did he really say smuckers? :cb:

Re: Correcting the little one

lol! Smuckers is great!! My eldest does have speech trouble and he couldnt say the "f" sound....so he'd call a fish a "b*tch" lol! And when I took him to the grocery store, he LOVED the lobster tank, guess what he'd yell at the top of his little voice!! He'd yell hello to them, talk to them for as long as I'd let him and say then goodbye to them, making sure to call them - yeah THAT - very loudly the whole time!! That type of thing I work on with the boys, if they do have trouble with a certain sound. But the cute things that they say I just let go...I mean its just too cute and too fleeting so why not enjoy yeah?

Re: Correcting the little one

My elder daughter had the usual baby lingo and used to call elephant elyman and kindergarten kinggergaten and spaghetti pasghetti. I never corrected her cos i love baby talk...so cute. Now she all grown up and so particular in her speech..sigh She in fact has the highest vocab in her class and is quite the poet.

My lil one refuses to talk and the few words she says are only what she wants to say. We try to make her say Ami for mum but she insists on calling me Maaamy and she does not want to say daddy but paaapa.

Re: Correcting the little one

yup let him b a kid.

Re: Correcting the little one

You can correct it by saying the word properly yourself..... so like if he says "Mama I want foo-boops" ...you can say "Ok I'll bring you some fruit loops" .....

my 2 yr old neice says the word butterfly as "bup-pa-pie"....so whenever she says "look at the pretty buppapie" ....i say "yes that it is beautiful butterfly"....

anyway....i agree...it does sound cute ...you can't help but smile. :)

Re: Correcting the little one

I'll let it go because its soo cute.
How old is your son mama? Mine is 2 1/2 years and I love this age when they are talking and trying to make sentences, you can just smile.

Re: Correcting the little one

and this is exactly how you should handle it.... well at least this is what a child psychologist would suggest.

it surprises me when i see some parents/adults/care takers, desi or non-desi, reinforcing the child's wrong pronunciations by repeating it themselves... and then bingo we get new words like duddo or wawa instead of doodh or milk.

Now now, how about a four-year-old, always replacing "s" with the "sh" in the word sit, saying "i want to sit" ?????

me got such a piece at ma house.
and me is a proud parent.:D

Re: Correcting the little one

mee wann a chota baby :(

Re: Correcting the little one

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Re: Correcting the little one

EVILlll...:o sigh I wonder what you gonna do with ur kids!!

Re: Correcting the little one

its just too cute to correct most of the time, if they are a bit older, yes, but not for toddlers

Re: Correcting the little one

For me it would depend on their age. Children have certain times they are supposed to have reached a certain level of cognitive and motor ability, and if they havent there can possibly be a problem though not always. So again, it would depend on his age, if I would correct him or not.

Re: Correcting the little one

well i dunno if u should be correcting it or not but pretty soon u mite be saying the same thing :hehe:

seriously it so happens that sometimes we start pronouncing words the same way as kids do when they are around a lot.

Re: Correcting the little one

^^ Too right kaun. My daughter used to call her teacher Ruth "Teacher Roof" and I too have addressed her as teacher roof a couple of times. How embarassing!!
