Coriander, my favorite herb.

Call me old fashioned but there is nothing better than a little dthuniya. You can add it to so many dishes. It’s not just a garnish, it brings life to a meal. Really, I think it does. I love it in fresh salsa. Sprinkle a little in daal, or pulow, lamb curry. My parents grew their own dthuniya so we always had it fresh. I was the one designated to pick it from the garden while my mother cooked, then wash it and chop it for her. So do you all use this herb in your cooking? Or do you think our Desi food would be the same without it? I think it’s also used in Mexican food. Do you know any other recipes?

Coriander chutney!

Re: Coriander, my favorite herb.

I put it in all the thai food I cook.. doesn't taste right without it. I know a girl who would eat dhuniya sandwiches.. i think thats a little extreme, but some people love it that much!

Re: Coriander, my favorite herb.

It makes the best salsa. I love the smell of fresh organic coriander.

My family is also big on dhaniya (powdered or fresh) but I think other than to use it as garnish, its really not anything extra ordinary. It looks good in an omelet.

i like it too, in the uk we get tend to get uk grown which is ok and sometimes imported from places like israel but that doesnt taste as good....the best is fresh from the garden.

its good in Guacomole and far eastern food (thai and malay type)

Re: Coriander, my favorite herb.

Do you mean Cilantro? Or are there fresh coriander leaves also available in the market. We put crused corainder in a lot of our foods esp. when making stew.
