I recently lost a pet who was almost 20 years old and who I had had since the 90s (since she was born). The positive aspect of her life is that she outlived her life expectancy by almost a decade, because her species usually lives up to the age of 10 (in human years). However, I still miss her a lot since I had her for so long.
For all those of you who have had pets who you lost, due to them passing away, how did you grieve for them (especially if you enjoyed their company and had them for several years)?
im really sorry. 20 years is a long time! you can take comfort in the fact that you provided your pet with a loving home for such a long period of time. How to get over it…just look back at the happier times. Look at it as a long and fulfilling existence which you provided. All the best mate (iv always had a soft spot for animals )
I had a cat whom I got when I was in school and was with me after I finished university & joined work. he was 13.5 years when he passed away. It took me sometime to get over it , I used to miss him so much esp after going home , those were really hard days. and not many people will understand your loss for them it’s was just an animal.
i didn’t keep any pet inside my house after that though I still have many cats who come in morning & evening to eat food but they don’t live with me.
find comfort in the fact that your pet lived a good life and lived so long. every living being is mortal.
I’m so very sorry for your loss.
You were lucky to have your pet with you for so long. I hope that you have some really comforting memories that you have banked over the years to rely upon.
We have two cats currently, one of whom has been through some major health issues where I had to consider putting him down to mitigate the suffering. Allah ka shukar we were able to get some surgery that has extended his life. Sometimes I look at him and wonder how much time Allah has given us with him and I tear up.
That’s wonderful, that you were able to prolong your cat’s life through surgery. As diamond321 pointed out some people think of pets (and animals in general) as “just animals”, but to a lot of their owners our pets are like members of our own family.
