Yahoo! Shammi Kapoor has lost it - the flab we mean. He has shed weight - around 22 kilos to be precise. The beard has gone and there are no plans of growing it again.
His long-flowing kurtas have been traded in for some colourful T-shirts. A slim-n-trim Kapoor is back in circulation.
“I was in the ICU for two months. I went real close to Him - almost near Him. I am thankful to be back. It all started with a bout of pneumonia, my lungs collapsed, and then there were complications. But life has a new meaning now.”
The Internet Users Community of India (IUCI) is hosting a ‘welcome back’ party for him in the city on Sunday. “I am touched by this gesture. It feels so good to have friends who really care.”
Kapoor was one of the early Internet users in the country surfing for 12-14 hours a day. “Now I can’t put in so many hours, but I do surf at intervals.”
The weight loss due to the illness and a post - hospitalisation diet has also given Kapoor a new zest for life. “I feel much lighter and fitter. I feel like going out; feel like taking my wife out.”
Kapoor undergoes dialysis once a week. “That’s why I have to avoid plenty of intake of liquids, otherwise I eat in moderation.”
At 72, Kapoor wants to take life easy. He is still clued in on the Bollywood scene. “I read about what is happening and catch up on films on the DVD.”
Would he face the camera again? “There is nothing happening anyway. What’s there for me? Unless someone comes up to me and says this is a role only for you and it all depends on what it is.”
