seem like a really nice group of people…unlike most of the desi’s at my Uni.
Anyway, here goes another q. Would you marry(consider marrying) a girl who didn’t know how to cook? I mean she knows how to make chai, scramble an egg but as far as cooking a meal is concerned, she can’t do a thing. In fact, the last time she tried to cook(like 3-4 yrs ago), somehow the kitchen caught on fire!!!
I suppose it depends on what your priorities are...if you enter into a relationship, you do so for a reason (usually other than those of culinary skills), so I suppose its about how important these skills are to you.
If you are willing to learn...well, you can't go wrong! But culturally, its "nice" for a lady to be able to cook.
Personally, I couldn't careless, although I would prefer it if the man come with the necessary skills too!
Culinary skills are at the bottom of my personal ‘lisht’. Being a Cancerian, I’ve always fancied myself as a better cook if I ever put my mind and energies to it
As for my mom, she narrates stories of people she visits who tell her ‘this was cooked by our daughter’ and ‘she makes a tasty such and such dish too’ and my mom thinks kay "main nay ‘bavarchee kee zaroorat hay’ kaa toa ishtehaar nahee dyaa kaheen’ all she wants is someone who is intelligent, well educated, and will hopefully make a good mother, cuz all other things you can get people to do for you.
Oi, that's what McDonalds and Old Country Buffet is for. For $6 ist's all you can eat. Kids 12 and under get reduced price and Seniors too. Now at McDonalds you can get cheese burgers for 29 cents on Tuesdays.
She can always learn to cook, but I don't see it as something important. She could have other qualities to make up for it.
I know I can't cook, but's not like i'm gonna end up starving to death.
ok honestly I am lost in this thread. Now there are females/girls looking for men to marry who should to some extend have certain, degree, good pay ect… … …
then if men want a female who can cook its natural, it should not be a big deal. Lost even if you cant cook you said you are willing to learn so I see no problem in it.
I mean if I cant cook should I eat out everyday, this is expensive, please Mcdonalds burgers are not food! its junk sorry thats how I see fast food.
Learning cooking is simple, just do some practing at home and it gets better with time to tim. I am suprised that you did not learn that at school. My mom made me cook when I was 13 years old. One thing I still cant cook properly is a rooti, but the rest I can manage somehow. I find cooking can be fun, I dont see it as a waste of time.
oh and Munni is right, so many do not learn to cook properly but still marry, but if their hubbies are happy with eating burgers every day is another story

McDonald's classified as "food"? I'm shocked with horror!
And the marketing's started here too...I've had enough of the global exploitation!
Cooking simple healthy food is not complicated! Even desi style food can be simple and good for you and not take too much time. For goodness sake, don't ruin your health frequenting fast food outlets... too much fat, salt, additives.
As a rule the less you mess with food the more healthy it is, so go strong on the raw fruit and vegs and fill in with other things. Have fun experimenting! You might even find you enjoy it...
some unions do not allow too much of the classic roles genders are supposed to play. These days it may happen that the woman is more educated or has a better job or needs to work more hours than the man. In such cases household chores are to be evenly distributed so as not to overburden one partner.
Traditionally, culinary skills have fallen in the lap of females. There is no reason that can’t change because most young males who live alone learn to cook to save their lives
I guess priorities have shifted lately to finding a better personal match and a good prospective mother for future kids than a winner in the kitchen department.
I believe thats quite true, in some cases men do cook better than females.

How can a mother be good mother if she cannot cook properly. If my mom cannot teach me how to cook and cannnot motivate me to cooking I think I would feel left out in some ways wouldn’t I? No cooking isnt the only thing a female should manage to do but its necessary for a good wife and mom to at least cook one hot meal a day! If I feed my kid burgers and junk food, aint I ruining their lives and health and am I a good mom then? something to think about.
) But there other things that are more important then cooking which a mum should have.
I myself love cooking and do it alot. And more important then cooking is character and intelligence. If i ever marry a girl i want to have a proper conversation with her and talk about different things. Thats more important then cooking.
Here in Holland if both husband and wife work, sometimes the husband cooks and sometimes the wife.
