Cooking for beginners

So aami is leaving for Pakistan in a couple of days and I’m not much of a cook to begin with. It would be very grateful if you guys could help me out a bit. I would love some recipes which aren’t hard to make or time consuming.

Re: Cooking for beginners

Well, here is one easiest dishes of all times.

Take 2 aloos (potatoes), peel them and slice them. Not very thick.
Put 1 small onion, 1 tomato, 3 cloves of garlic, 1/2 inch piece of ginger with 1/2 cup water in blender and blend the masala well.
Put the masala in the degchi, add salt, red chilli powder, pinch of haldi, 1 tsp of ground corriender. Cover and let it cook for some time.
When the water starts to evaporate, add 2 tbsp oil and bhoonafy the masala. Add the potatoes, along with sabat green mirch and bhoonafy for some time. Dont let it burn. Add 1 cup water cover and let it cook on low heat until the aloos are done
Make sure there is enough water to make a nice shorba.

eat it with boiled rice.

Re: Cooking for beginners

  • Pull recipes from the food network too Kino - they have some really yummy stuff which is not hard to make.

Chicken Fajitas
- boil boneless chicken (I took almost 2 lbs for 4 very hungry adults) with some salt, black pepper, ginger, and garlic
- Shred the chicken into pieces
- In a pot cut one onion and a couple of cloves of garlic and fry till the onions are a bit translucent and soft. Add corn (1 cup) and one green chilli (to add some spice). Stir for a few minutes till corn is soft. Add a can of stewed tomatoes and leave out the watery part from the canned tomatoes. Bhoonify it a bit to the mixture is not too liquidy. Add the chicken pieces to this mixture and add salt and crushed red peppers to taste.

Once the above mixture is ready you can use it in a variety of ways like making fajitas or stuffed pita bread.

For fajitas - buy some torillas - fill it w/ the above mixture, shredded cheddar and pepper jack cheese and taco sauce. Fold the toritilla and fry it lightly and dinner is served :-)
You can stuff the mixture into a warm pita bread with shredded lettuce, tomaotes and sour cream too
