We are having cooking contest in our apartment complex…as its university housing so its kind of a multinational complex…The competition includes making either entree or dessert from your country of origin. Last time i made pakora karhi and got 2nd prize. I am totally confused this time. I need ideas. i was thinking gulab jaman but i am not sure whether to go for it or not. Please give some suggestions.
Thanks in advance!![]()
Re: Cooking Contest - Need ideas!
make qulfi/kulfi icecream! .... its hot n i bet it'll go over really really well!
Re: Cooking Contest - Need ideas!
I have never made kulfi before. and as the competition is outdoor and we have to take our dishes there half an hr before....i dont think its a good idea....it will melt.
Re: Cooking Contest - Need ideas!
Ras malai is a great dessert! As for entrees, how about butter chicken or tandoori chicken? You could also do seekh kebabs (beef or chicken)with naan. Serve kebabs on a platter all prettied up with onion rings and mint leaves and cut the naan into triangles.

^ The competition is at 5 pm.....can i make rus milayi a night before?
Re: Cooking Contest - Need ideas!
Most people like chicken tikka and sheesh kababs.
Re: Cooking Contest - Need ideas!
So, how does the contest work? Is one winner picked for the entree and one for the dessert? Because...picking just one winner out of a bunch of entree and dessert dishes doesn't seem to make sense...since desserts and entrees are so different from one another.
For dessert....how about kulfi/falooda? That would be my first pick...because ice cream is liked by most people...and you'd be exposing them to a different variety...and there's such a unique texture contrast with the kulfi and falooda noodles. You can also try shahi tukra since bread pudding is common in many cultures and it would be interesting for people to know how it's made in desi culture. This would be a good dish if you're pressed for time. Or zarda...because rice is usually seen as a savoury dish...and it's not in the form of a rice pudding...so that makes it unique.
For the entree....a chicken dish such as chicken karahi/tikka masla/butter chicken? Or chanay? Palak paneer?

Thankyou so much....you guys are great :)
Re: Cooking Contest - Need ideas!
in food category the dish loved by all is butter chicken. in dessert category i would say rus malai, kheer or shahi tukray would be a good one.
Re: Cooking Contest - Need ideas!
I think people enjoy our tandoori stuff and like Mirch mentioned, chicken tikka masala they love.
