Cookies

So..

i have a couple of questions..

1.what sort of information do they store?? can it be used/stolen ?? Like login/password and stuff??

  1. Are the cookies browser specific? as in…if you browse a site with say IE…the cookie will be only accessible by IE and that if you open teh same site with Mozilla…the site will send new cookie??

3.Can there be a cookie which sits on your computer…but u can’t find it or delete it with normal browsers options??

Re: Cookies

1 - they can be stolen in several ways. wont bore you with those here.

2 - Browser specific cookies. Some browsers have butter cookies, some may like chocolat chip!

3 - Yes some trojans may enter in form of cookie and sit in your computer without being deleted through normal browser actions.

some other techie dudes can correct me if i am wrong.

Re: Cookies

Couple=2, you asked 3 :stuck_out_tongue:

As you answered yourself, they can store login cred’s, time of visit, where u were coming from etc.
Yes, they can be stolen via scripts etc (Invest in extensions like NoScript and turn it on for shady sites)

Cookie is limited to the browser

If a cookie cannot be purged via normal browser functions, it graduates and is called a Trojan. For cleaning those use tools like CCleaner etc.
