people who want to have only their way.
they possess cookie cutter mindset since they are miserably trapped in their own comfort zone of selfishhood.
do we check, are we one of them, intentionally or unintentionally?
what are the tell tales of such people?

share your thoughts on this, if you like.

This phenomenon can be seen especially in our desi cultures in the form of obedient children. I have always wondered how we distinguish obedience from subjugation in our culture? Any thought Sis …

Re: COOKIE CUTTER MINDSET

walaikum salam.
USResident,
i see what you are saying. not all parents are like that. i think there is educational need all around in the society.

obedience is when you are able to realize that something being expected of you is indeed good and that there is not any pressure on you, due to the 'seniority' of who is offering the advice which you are presumed to take and oblige.

subjugation is that wasta mentality that parents give to their sons when they are asked fro berkurdari to fulfill, regardless of what the son wants.
parents of daughters use the wasta tactic to force them into decisions to drop studying and be alright in accepting any monster they themselves are lured into considering for their daughter.
in any event that is one aspect of the cultural non sense.
the other is what do you think as a thinking person with having a basic sense of distinguishing right from wrong deeds.
and thereby you very firmly and politely state that you can abide by certain things but not by others.
criteria to be obedient is not something that should be implicit.
obedience should come out of one's own accord, knowing that what i am being obedient for is the right thing to do.

hope this helps.

Re: COOKIE CUTTER MINDSET

I think it is simply a naturally occurring thing. Take the very concept of cookie-cutter. What makes you (and me and most others) think that cookie-cutter always makes the same cookie? Only the external shape is same, the ingredients are as different as imagination!

Re: COOKIE CUTTER MINDSET

Nice explanation Sis. Much what I was expecting. Obedience is a choice coming from our children and not downwards from parents. I think its essential that reasons for good choices are known to children and not because the parents said so. After all if we as parents think we have the wisdom to make the correct choice for them then we should pass the wisdom on to them so they are also capable of it. However at an age when they cannot understand the reasons, we use a reward and punishment system? Do you agree?
