There is black magic and white magic. Well traditionally, those are the divisions. Other magic schools of thought divide things up differently. So, black magic is a type of witchcraft.
Islam asks you to stay away from all kinds of witchcraft even white magic, but it doesn't deny that they exist or that they even truly work. Reason to stay away from even white magic is that you don't know if you'll be tempted to convert over to black magic and you don't want to play with fate or destiny, even with good intentions, because you don't know what kinds of disturbances you can cause.
