Convicted Criminals

Would you be willing to help ex-offenders/ex-prisoners reintegrate back into the society by, for example, giving them a job at your house/workplace?

To be brutally honest, if I knew someone had a criminal record, I most likely wouldn’t be able to trust them. A part of me understands that it is perhaps this constant rejection of ex-convicts by the society that makes them commit more crime for survival… but then the thought of your own safety takes over.

Re: Convicted Criminals

Hmm. It does depend what they've been convicted for. If it's a violent crime then it'd be a no from me.
I know a coupla people who've gone to prison, but it's all fraud/theft related stuff, so I think I'd be okay. I guess you gotta give them a second chance, although you probly wouldnt want to trust them very much.

Re: Convicted Criminals

I think it can also depend upon the crime...and things like mental/psychological disorders....which might be triggered (possibly at the detriment of others) at a later point if not treated.

Re: Convicted Criminals

That is a tricky one.

I would give that person a job if he/she somehow can convince me that he/she wants to become a better person and can resist temptations.

Re: Convicted Criminals

When someone has committed a crime and did a jail time, its not so black and white when they say that he has paid his debt to the society already. No he has not. That criminal activity is going to haunt him for the rest of his life.

Employers run a background check on each applicant and any criminal record is a black mark (and a red flag in my opinion). I would never hire an ex-convict.

DO you know that in certain States of USA, ex-convict dont have voting rights. They have to apply to get that back, and it could be rejected.

Convicted Criminals

There is something called a probation officer - its their job to do this

Re: Convicted Criminals

depends on the convict and the job i am offering… if i can assess to my satisfaction his wilingness to change…i wouldn’t have a problem…moreover i would pay him a lot less, if anything …so makes good business sense :hehe:

Re: Convicted Criminals

Nomi - kitnay evil ho :(

I suppose I feel the same way as others - depends on the crime.

Re: Convicted Criminals

Well, we took it to a whole new level and elected one our president, didn't we.

Re: Convicted Criminals

Once the person has done his/her time, no issues. They hould definnitely get voting rights back. Prison system is getting privatized. One' srace also determines if one has spent time in prison or not. It is a no brainer that reentry into public life should be free of discrimination.

But I can also understand peoples hesitation in hiring ex-cons. Solution is to decriminalize lots of "crimes", ensure racial discrimination is eliminiated, make sure prison system is revamped, with emphasis on education rather than brainless punishment.
