According to him there is no punishment for apostasy in the Quran - and since the death penalty for murder - and adultery are death and are mentioned in the Quran - he thinks that the absence of the prescription of death penalty for apostates in the Quran implies that apostasy is not punishable by death.

Those who do think apostasy is punishable by death are basing their views on the Sunnah & Hadith.

@ 1 ummah - I have no intention of leaving Islam - there is no other religion that would satisfy me

@ mukobhai - please do tell me how you’re certain that leaving Islam is punishable by death - where did you hear this from? Can you point to any source?

So I guess I can tell my atheist friend who was never really a Muslim - but raised in a Muslim family - that I think he’s not punishable by death because the Quran does not say so. Does this seem right?
