Converting bridals into formals

Hello!

So, I’m feeling kind of weird that I’ll be spending a couple of lakhs on a dress that I will never wear again. That makes no sense to me. So I’m on a mission to find a way to make my bridal dress so I can reuse it somehow, by converting it into one or more heavy formals. I’ve heard the rare rumor about other brides trying to do the same. If anyone has any advice, pictures, experience, ideas etc., I would really appreciate it!

So far my basic idea is to have a long shirt with a lehnga or sharara or something for the bottom that I can open up later and make another shirt / anarkali / frock out of. Pair the dupatta with both or make an additional very light dupatta. Add bottoms and ta da! I’ll have 2 dresses. Sound doable?

Re: Converting bridals into formals

Totally doable. I have seen a cousin convert her lehnga to a saree.

Re: Converting bridals into formals

Thanks for replying blackdiamond :) did she make the entire saree out of the lehnga? Didn't think there would be enough cloth in there for that.

Re: Converting bridals into formals

I've seen people do that too
They keep the kameez and add a churidar or shalwar

A cousin of mine cut the top part of her baraat kameez and added some kapra to the bottom and turned it into a frock, and she made churidaar and a light dupatta. I cant explain very well lol but she did a good job and it looks like a regular heavy formal

Re: Converting bridals into formals

i had a small choli/shirt with my barat lehnga (small shirts were in fashion 4 years ago). so i am reusing the lehnga and dopatta with a faun heavy formal shirt with golden and kundan kaam , the shirt is also from my shaadi so it is knee length which looks great with the lehnga as the lehnga is full of kaam too.

Re: Converting bridals into formals

i was thinking about joining my shirt and lehnga and making a maxi style dress but decided against it right now, maybe for another wedding in the family

Re: Converting bridals into formals

Thanks for the replies NuzuWuzu and sryope :) Any tips for what can be done with a gharara? I'm probably never going to wear heavy ghararas / shararas / lehngas after my wedding so I'm looking to convert them into more shalwar kameez style formals.

Re: Converting bridals into formals

I've seen some girls make plain, long silk kameezes to wear with their lenghas, which looks quite pretty. You can re-use the bridal dupatta or get a less heavier one.

Also I've seen some girls use their mehndi or bridal dupattas with a plain suit, looks pretty too.
