Converter, adapter, both?

Salaam,

I plan on taking my battery charger with me to Saudi and I’m a little confused with what I need to make it work over there. The charger is NOT dual voltage, only 120. Now if I’m in Saudi, do I need a voltage converter and then an adapter or just a plain old adapter…??

Re: Converter, adapter, both?

You need a power coverter (which hooks infront of your regular 120V adapter) which steps the voltage from 120 to 240VAC, which you should be able to get cheaply offa ebay, or even ratshack... Since its a battery charger, a normal one would work, if its something like a power appliance, like a hair dryer, you would have to buy a higher power rating one. Also, make sure it has the european style front end or if not, buy a european converter seperately, its $2-3 from ratshack again...

Thanks

Re: Converter, adapter, both?

Saudia is using 220 Volts standard. You need 220-240 volts to 110 volts step down transformer/Converter. Since its only the small AA or AAA battery charger you will be fine with somthing like 500 mA or 0.5 Amp. Even 1 Amp will do that. This rating is not that high so a small size transformer will work.

Re: Converter, adapter, both?

When did they switch over to 220 ?
The last I remember (Mid 2002) they had the good old 110 V ...
Which means that Hinna can use her battery charger without any problem

Re: Converter, adapter, both?

It depends, which part you are . They are using both 127 and 230 Volts. you never know where one will be so its better to carry the converter instead of blowing things.
