OK so there was a time when someone said “art” they meant painting, sketching, drawing, sculpture -that type of thing. Soon it included photography, computer aided art, then computer generated art. Now you put a ball in the middle of a lawn and that is considered art and the “new” artist looks for the position and depth and intensity and the thought behind placing that ball on that particular section of the lawn. Is that really art? And if it is, then are we all artists.
Re: Controversial topic
To me Art is not the observation, Art is the presentation .. if I am an artist, I might be able to see some art in a heap of animal waste .. but can I show it to someone else .. I dont think so.
Re: Controversial topic
LOL Nikki , you are funny. IMO beauty of art lies in the eyes of beholder. If someone has appreciation for that ball in the lawn , it is art for that someone . On the other hand not everybody can appreciate abstract art by Picasso but it will not lessen his stature as a great painter.
Re: Controversial topic
Mirch Picasso is different. He is a talented painter using colors and technique in presenting twisted abstracts on to a canvas. He could possibly paint that ball on the lawn and we can possibly review his use of yellow and green. But how you expect me to appreciate the ball and call it art is simply forcing me to do so ![]()
Re: Controversial topic
we all *are *artists. in our own ways. so what if we can't create masterpieces that cost a million dollars in a minimum. everyone's vision, techniques are different. cooking is an art. knitting is an art. painting is an art. its just that we look at painting, and usually on a canvas, and we think that it's art. but if you take a trip back to our homelands, and look at the buildings and trucks etc, there is art on them too. it's a skill that they had to learn, harness, hone.
at the same time, you can make squiggles on a sheet of paper and call it art, and there would atleast be 10 people pulling out depths and meaning from it :p so who's right?
i think it all comes down to how you feel about it. if it makes you happy, if it satisfies you, then it's art. it's very possible that others won't get it, others won't agree with it, but ehen. but...at the same time, it has to be effortless.
Re: Controversial topic
Hmmm, I understand that perspective Khumi, I do really. But I think that it has been taken to the next level.
It is about our perception, how we perceive something. The term "Art" no more has one or two definitions, it is quite a vague term now and it pretty much allows everyone to somehow relate to it. Art has become a medium to accommodate everyone despite of their abilities or how they perceive something. Now art is no more seen as what artist wants the viewers to see but how the viewer sees that work. You can place a stone in the middle of the table and it might be art for someone, there will be someone who would have an opinion on the artistic aspect of it. It can about the color, texture, harmony, symmetry, shape, position, anything in short. So yeah we all are artists.
I hope it makes some sense..lol....
