What type of contraception would you guys suggest is best? Something that won’t affect your chance of having kids in the future.I have heard that after you stop taking birth control pills, it takes a long time for you to get pregnant. Is that true?
Anyone whose tried a method and got pregnant within a few months after they stopped?
I've heard that too and actually asked my doctor about it. However, she said that once it's out of your system then there is nothing to worry about. I used BC and got preggers right away! But it's a huge hassle to remember to take it everyday as I am a bit forgetful :S
You have choices like IUD, cervical cap and condoms. IUD can cause scarring so I'd stay away from that. If you're leaning more toward medication, the birth control pill, the regular and typical one, is the one thats been used for decades without affecting fertility for the vast majority. Any type of medication that interferes with your body's natural and expected function has more of a chance to affect your fertility. The ones that require one dose for 3 months. The ones that stop your period. Many more women than you know have troubles from these medications. You interfere with normal cycles and your bodymay have trouble getting them back - or not get them back at all.
You can discuss all the possibilities with your doc and decide from there.
I agree with Mama because according to what i've learned at school birth control pill is the safest and most researched birth control method with the least side effects (such as n/v etc for the first cycle).
How do you guys feel about taking hormones? The idea is kind of scary, especially knowing stuff about how hormone replacement therapy puts women at a much greater risk of heart attacks and all.
I know most doctors find them risk free, but pills haven't been around for long enough for us to really learn their long-term effects.
I guess the only other non-hormonal alternatives are IUD and condoms.
Just wanted to see how you ladies feel about them.

but so many of the fruits, veggies and meats, even milk, that we consume nowadays are hormone-influenced, so you're already getting them into your system in various other ways. this isn't a right or wrong thing, its just a fact.
the pill has been around for long enough and women have been having babies for just as long too with and without being on the pill, just like they've been having fertility issues too.
the bottom line is, if you are having issues with your periods before you get on the pill, the same issues are going to pop up after you get off the pill, and your periods are really what determine ovulation and if you can conceive, not the pill.
