my aunt worked as a doctor while my uncle studied MBA. she earned and they had kids too. they managed very well. she supported his studies superbly. & he always said, had it not been for his wife, he would not be able to have completed his studies ever.
so yes, a caring spouse is a must, when studies have to continue a little longer beyond marriage.
