how do you plug in databases with these systems? I mean I know theres probably mechanisms for fetching simple content, but what if you want to plug in more complex business logic?

anyone tried integrating these CMS with more traditional web/mvc frameworks, like Struts, Spring etc?
I know there is the php/java divide, unfortunately as far as good CMS systems are concerned I am on the wrong side :(
