chorain ji... PPP ko tau maulviyon sey masla hai... If president Clinton has no immunity from civil law suits, how can a person be above law just being in a public office?
I always thought that those in Public offices have bigger duty to uphold and protect law of the country... Magar PPP => jitna bara criminal, utna bara oohda.

Rewind back to 2008. 'Anti-Establishment forces PML(N) and PPP join together to defeat ‘pro-establishment’ PML(Q) and MQM.
Now ==> PML(Q) and MQM are allied with PPP.
The government had unprecedented support from people and most political parties when it came into power. Had this government shown a little bit of mercy on us, they might have succeeded in ruling for next 25 years.
What they did ===> chachay ka baita yahan Chairman, mamon ka baita wahan Chairman, Jail ka dost yahan director, dost ka baita wahan director and we witnessed unprecedented loot mar.
The story of this thread:
Zardari had looted money in swiss banks → He opted to become president rather than prime-minister because that position gives him ‘immunity’ —> immunity is for criminal cases, not civil cases —> Government would not act on decisions from Supreme court —> Supreme court after waiting for more than 2 years issues contempt of court ----> government brings in new law to make contempt of court legal.
I am not buying establishment story anymore. Thank you.

**ISLAMABAD: ** **A day after it sailed through the National Assembly, the Contempt of Court Bill 2012 was challenged in the apex court.
**Describing the bill as ‘another National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO)’, the petitioner said it would only serve to protect certain important people in the country.
The bill stipulates exemption from court trail for the president, the prime minister, the provincial chief ministers, federal and provincial ministers and governors on contempt of court charges.
The underlying objective of the bill is to obstruct the implementation of law and lawful orders by the courts and to pave the way for a slow death of the accountability process, according to the petitioner.
He said that the new bill curtailed independence of the judiciary and violated the spirit of constitutional provisions.
The petitioner maintained that the bill, if passed into law, would delay contempt proceedings and frustrate the constitutional provision of article 2-A, 4,5,25,175, 203,204 and 248 of the Constitution of Pakistan.
Requesting the apex court to declare the bill unconstitutional, the petitioner said, “The Contempt of Court Bill/Law 2012 passed by the National Assembly was ultra vires to the Constitution and against article 8 of the Constitution.”

I have heard a lot that there are no contempt of court laws elsewhere in the world. But I think they are in in UK, USA and Europe. Arent they? Does this new law conform to developed nation' contempt laws or not?
