I have been wearing contact lenses for 8 years now..I never had any problems..I prefer them over glasses anyday
yep same here , i have been using em frm long time n never had ne problem ...
I think the safety aspect has been addressed over the years and should not be that big of a concern as it used to be... especially with the different options now you get these days (throw-away, daily wear etc.) .. just keep them clean..
a word of caution, if you have stigmatism you might run into issues... i have high stigmatism and tried different types of contact lenses but they didn't work out for me, the vision is never perfect with them my glasses work better than my lenses.. for out door activity like sports and stuff lenses sill do a good job but for watching TV, reading, GSing and googling … stuff inside the house these lenses didn't cut it for me...
last year my doc gave me some new lenses to try on saying that they are the best I never tried them still sitting in my medicine cabinet….. glasses have become part of my face now.. don’t even notice them anymore… except when it rains or my kids smudge them :)
the mistake ppl make with lenses is that they are not responsible with them. cleaning them properly, leaving them in for too long or sleeping with the lenses in your eyes.
some of teh dumb things I have done with my lenses
trying to put lenses in my eye after eating spicy food...dang man u can wash yer hands but if u have handled harri mirch...yer eyes are going to pay
sleeping with my lenses in..one time it got stuck to my cornea and when i pulled it part of the cornea was ripped, kuckily it was at the edge of the pupil and did not impact my sight, but after emergency surgery to ensure that the resulting infection did not make me lose my sight in that eye, I am very very careful with lenses now.
my advice..go with disposables..easier maintenance..befre they get too much gunk on them u toss em, and although more expensive on an annual basis...if you lose a lens or rip it, u have a whole supply waiting for you.
thanx for the advices guys....
will note em all down....
but i guess i wont compromise on the quality or wud do myself harm....
I wear hard contact lens (in one eye), at first it was a lil hard getting used to, now I cant do anything without them.
I can never wear glasses any type, cause they give me such a headache.
As Fraudia said if u take care of them properly nothing should go wrong.
lenses are pretty safe nowadays. However, that's dependent on how much care you take for them. Roughly you have hard and soft ones. Soft ones are said to be better fitting, but they have a slightly higher chance of irritating your eyes. The hard ones are tougher getting used to but they last longer, and have a better effect on ur sight.
I'd advice you to stay under 6 month-one yearly control of an eye-specialist / lens-specialist. Those are the people usually benefitting most from lenses.
although as Fraudz said, disposables are handy getting along with, it is often the long term lenses that give the best results and are safest.

Totally agreed.
I had the same problems when I tried wearing lenses...At the beginning, I thought my doc is prescribing me wrong contacts but after 3 eye exams and trying different types of lenses I figured they aren't made for me....:)
I read something about permanent contact lenses once, as all alternative for those who aren't suitable candidates for laser eye surgery.
Has or does anyone use these?
^those are implanted in your eyes. so you don't have to replace them anymore or worry about them
wow Fraudz ...lol you've had all sorts of crazy problems with your lenses!?
I've been wearing contacts for I think 7 years now. I've never had any problems at all. I have the kind you put on in the morning and take off at night. I think they're the disposeable lenses?
I just have to clean them every night and put them in the solution. That's it !
When they rip or after a month I throw them away.

Sounds too good to be true............what's the catch?
My cousin got laser done, and she's had it for 1 year and she is doing perfect. I've met others who have had it for over 3-4 years, and their doing well.
My friend has those month long contact's where you sleep, play, shower, etc. without taking them out for one month.
I may go that way, but I've been wearing contacts for 7-8 years, and I've been doing great. The only thing you will have to look into is stimitism.
the only bad thing i've done for my contacts is sleeping with them...otherwise i've been wearing them for 7 years now...
i love them...hate myself in glasses, glasses are a pain in my arse
oh and i have astigmatism, and my contacts are just fine for it
been wearing lenses...transparent ones...since i was 14...dont wear em regularly tho...usually wear em to go out to formal events...at home or even at job sometimes i just wear glasses..cant be bothered to put lenses on all the time :p sometimes i just dont use glasses or lenses at all... i even sleep with lenses in my eyes if im too lazy to take em off, my lenses r weekly...Allah ka shukar hae eyes r totally fine never got an infection or something despite pakistan's pollution :D
i did wear them consecutively for a whole week once when i was travelling and eyes got really itchy and taking em off was heaven
my friend who has sensitive eyes and they get irritated when she uses lenses...
if one takes care of them, takes em off regularly, cleans them regulalry and washes eyes it shudnt be a prob
Allah ka shukar hay i dont need lenses at all.. liken i dunno.. if its my choice.. i'd prefer glasses... easier to handle.. n less risk to actually mess up my eyes... but then.. its me ... ! :-)
Just go to your optometrist. They'll prolly give you a trial pair to try out. If that one doesn't work, they'll try another pair. Then you can buy however many lenses you want. Just try it. I couldn't consider going back to my glasses. Now, if I wear them for a single day, it feels like there's a huge weight on my face and I'm so relieved when I take them off. Lenses also help sports and such.
Just remember to keep them clean, keep your eyes clean, don't sleep in them and don't rub them too much (yea, you can't rub your eyes like normal, all you can do is like kinda massage them), and anything else the other gups have said and you'll love them. So, just try it out!
A highly educated eye specialist once said
"I would never ever like to interfer in my eyes without inevitable reasons....eye is the most sensitive part, and the most important, interfering without any reasons doesnot make any sense"
Disposeable ones are the best for careless people.
You would have to try which brand suits your eyes the most. Dura soft are the best. Other ones can be a bit uncomfortable cz their material is harder.
If you go for the daily or extended wear, make sure you clean them regularly and properly. They say now with new multi pupose solutions, protein removal tablets are not required but no matter what, you must use those tablets every 1/2 weeks or so. Never handle them without washing your hands. It's very important. Also never use tissue to wipe your hands after washing (before handling your lenses, that is)
Daily change the solution in your lenses case. And always follow the daily routine of "rinsing", "washing", etc.
A proper care would not only ensure safety and comfort but also your pair would last longer than one/two years.
