Consulting

Anyone here do consulting on a part time basis?

If so, I wanted to discuss the benefits (networking, income) and costs (startup costs, adverts etc) of starting a part time consultancy.

I know many professors and academics take on consulting as their time permits, however due to confidentiality clauses its not so common in my industry.

Re: Consulting

I did moonlighting as a consultant, it started off as an offer to a former boss who was doing independent gigs and I became his backoffice staff doing analysis, reserach and developing alternatives etc for his projects, he introduced me to some of his friends doing similar work and I did the same for them, income was good, but I had to stop because I changed jobs and the new gig had some rather limiting clauses on what I could or could not do.

never had much overhead, expenses because I had no advertising, networking was good because ppl liked what I did and then introduced me to others so it was introductions with endorsements which made for a stronger netwok.
