Consulting Hadith is forbidden

Hi one of my friends claim that consulting hadith is haram for muslims the Prophet(PBUH) himself has forbidden it and this is true for both shia and sunnis
is that correct any mention of it in the Quran?
will appreciate responses backed by relevant ayats and hadith

consulting hadiths is haram as one hadith reports so....
what an ironic statement....
