constipation

My baby 6 month has constipation … :-/ Thanks to starting solids.

what are some natural remedies ? … have tried some but no luck so far.

Re: constipation

could it be something that she ate?

pear is great.. mush it up and give it to her

100 % prune juice.. u can dilute it or not.. up to u.. i used to give my son 1 oz in morning and 1 oz in evening... worked wonders.. i didnt dilute it though

white grape juice is also great

stop feeding her rice cereal for the time being.. and no bananas nor applesauce.

Re: constipation

yeah maybe something she was eating .... have stopped feeding her cereal a few days ago as I noticed that she is not regular anymore, we have not started bananas yet.

have given her pear .. lots of soounf tee.

today I bought dried prune, plum .. soaked in warm water and puried and mixed with fruit .. it was hard to get her to eat it though. Have to find the juice or white grape juice.

Re: constipation

you can buy prunes in the baby food section (in a jar). Same with pears. They are miracles when it comes to constipation.

how many days has it been? be careful she doesn't get any hemmoroids.

Re: constipation

I went thru this with all 3 of mine! Prunes work great - either the juice or the baby food jars of prunes. Carrots work almost as well.

My youngest was so very constipated that he got anal fissues and we used Maltsupex for a few months. This is a natural remedy but is horribly, alarmingly expensive. Hopefully, the prunes will do the job!

Re: constipation

I 2nd the pear sauce. I feed it to my daughter daily

Re: constipation

also, is she drinking water? she should be ...

Re: constipation

One week now :( she is feeling uncomfortable. I have tried warm bath, stomach messages and holding her in a position so that she can press easily. Maybe she is holding it, some babies do it when they feel pain.

I also got milk sugar, pears ... did nothing.

Funny enough, we dont have prunes in our baby section and by now I know that section by heart.

Drinking is enough, but it can be more. But as I have started giving her snoouf tee .. she is now taking more than before.

Re: constipation

ok one week is a long time. Continue letting her sit in warm water. My nurse told me that is what to do when a baby is constipated. Gently massage her stomach when she's in the water.

Continue giving her some pears. Can you get prune juice??

Re: constipation

1 week is way too long.... go to the pharmacy and get a laxative specially made for babies.. they dont work like adult laxatives and no, a baby wont get dependant on it, it just doenst work that way.

you give it for a week even if she is pooing fine...

once that is done... give things one at a time now that u know something is causing an issue with her digesting certain ingredients... try each thing for 4 days .. that way u will know the culprit immediately.

OR

u can just make prune juice a part of her daily diet.. once their solid intake is in full swing, constipation moves out of the picture.. its just the early days when solids are being introd taht their tummies do this as they are trying to digest somethign heavier than milk.

Re: constipation

oh and prune juice works WAY better than prunes in the jar.. i used to feed my son a whole bottle a day and he would still go 3 days without pooing.

i give him prune juice, 3 oz undiluted everyday and he poos wonderfully. without straining.

now ive totally stopped cuz his solid intake is wonderful mashallah, his stomach knows how to handle it... and he has stopped getting constipated.

Re: constipation

I totally recommend prune juice. My 3 years old is always constipated and always refuses his prune juice... ahh..

Try pears, plums, dates, avocados, melons.

Re: constipation

I think it's better to use an infant glycrin suppository than a lexative.

Re: constipation

CB, those suppositories are wonderful for the case where baby has such a hard movement that it becomes stuck in there. But you have to be careful using them because if used too often, baby will become dependent on them to be able to go. For those "now and then" times, they're a real godsend!

Re: constipation

Prune juice is the way to go. A little bit a few times a day untill she goes..

Re: constipation

take her to the doctor and get a suppository, poor baby must be felling really bad,
first thing in the morning give her some freshly squeezed orange juice and add some brown sugar to it, it works wonders, but she needs a suppository as it has been a week.

Also make sure you give her solids mid-day, this way she'll have the rest of the day to play around and digest it...i hope she gets better soon.

Re: constipation

agree with pyaare suppository would help !

Re: constipation

went to the doc today .. the nurse at first wasnt giving me any prescription and you know that these pharmacy dont give any medicine out without them.

She was try this and that, I had to tell her I have tried everything there is to try.

then she goes inside and brings me a tube to be inserted inside at evening. But before doing that I saw she wanted to release so put her in a position where she had to release and could not hold it anymore .. I picked her with her legs on my arms .. face not towards me and she did some crying but it helped.

khaw: u are right, this happens only at the beginning when newly starting solids .. I had it with M too and we had to go to emerengcy at weekend.

I think it was the rice that I was feeding her at evening .. now no more till she is a bit stable for it.

I could not find prune juice in the stores .. will have to go to a reform house for it.

I will be making pears, prune jucie her daily intake so that we donot have such a situation again

Re: constipation

if you give her vegetables, squash/lohkey really helps as well.

Re: constipation

Lots of water and mix in prune juice.
