My 3 months old daughter was breastfed with a little formula (similac 1-2 feedings a day) since birth. Recently I started giving her about 4 oz of formula (in addition to 3 oz once in the daytime) before bed which gives her long uninterrupted sleep without any feeding, I was so happy on this but she has got constipation, she poops sometimes after 3-4 days and its very dry, sometimes I have to make her poop. Is the formula causing it or what?
To let you know I also have constipation problem along with my elder daughter, she was given similac sensitive (but she was totally on formula after 2-3 months) but now as she is 3 she still has this issue.
Please help me, I cant see my baby in pain. She is masha ALLAH such a happy healthy baby but this constipation is causing so much difficulty for her.
Re: Constipation in 3 months old
our ped said it is normal for babies that old not to poop for 3 to 4 days. however check with your ped. are you still breast feeding? if yes check your diet.
When she poops is she obvs distressed by it? If it’s hard and pebbly, u shouls be concerned…and if she cries a lot when she poops. Otherwise, it’s normal for babies to go that long without pooping. I breastfeed my 3-month old son and he has also recently staryed going a few days between dirty diapers. I asked his ped and she said it’s normal… their digestive systems are still maturing. If she is displaying signs of distress at every poop then i would go to the doctor, if ahe’s a normal happy kid…cries occasionally…then it’s pretty much normal.
Re: Constipation in 3 months old
My baby would cry and strain to poop when he was around a month old, but that was related to colic, perhaps your paed can prescribe some medicine to help your baby? if it makes you feel better, babies that age can poop once a week or 10 times a day, its all considered normal. I’m not too sure about the pain though. Hope she gets well soon!
