Constant Diarrohea

So i have this very close friend of mine - she hasnt been feeling too well lately. I have just found out (confided in me as) that she has the runs all the time. How can you cure that? What kind of stuff should you eat and avoid?

I must admit, when i went to Egypt last week, i had it for a couple of days and i took 2 immodiam tabs - i wish i hadnt cuz that resulted in constipation! And i hate that more than anything!

Re: Constant Diarrohea

If it has been more than a week, I think she should see a doctor to get tested instead of trying to manage it through diet, because chronic diarrhea may God forbid be related to something more serious. In the meantime she should take care to get plenty of fluids and electrolytes

Re: Constant Diarrohea

Thanks midnight - what do you mean electrolytes?

Re: Constant Diarrohea

I agree with SE. And electrolytes are found in drinks like Gatorade and Pedialyte. Helps to recover from dehydration.

Your friend should really visit the doc and get tested. It may be an intestinal parasite which is easily cured with meds. Whatever the cause, it really should be treated if it hasnt gotten better after a week!

Good luck!

Re: Constant Diarrohea

It may be IBS!

Re: Constant Diarrohea

Trust me i have IBS and even i dont get constant diarrohea

Re: Constant Diarrohea

along with the above mentioned things...

also tell her to eat lots of plain yogurt. yogurt fights against bacterial infections that may be lingering in her digestive tract. The BRAT (Banana, rice, applesause and toast) diet works for some....mostly used for kids.

Re: Constant Diarrohea

Excellent AE - i know there was something i knew that could help this and its yogurt! Will def inform her!

Re: Constant Diarrohea

Banana+Yogurt smoothie works for me.. Ispagol husk used in yogurt is also effective..

Is she been using some medicine for some other problem lately? could be a side effect.

Re: Constant Diarrohea

You know, I was going to talk about yogurt but held back cause this gal really really should see a doc. Yogurt replaces the "friendly" bacteria that is needed to prevent infection, diarrhea etc and friendly bacteria can be killed off when there has been use of antibiotics.

But that said, having the affliction for more than a week is NOT a good thing. My son had this, intermittently with constipation and we found out - quite by accident - that he had intestinal parasites!!! Once it was treated, he began to gain weight SO much more easily!

Lesson learned. GO TO DOC. Its NOT that big a deal to have the test done yeah? Something as simple as eating yogurt may make the symptoms better but if its something like parasites or IBS etc then it will only serve to mask the problem for a while.

Best wishes to her and fingers crossed that she visits her doc soon!
