If you are even remotely considering a career in teaching, then you owe it to yourself to read this book: Make Money Teaching Online by Babb and Mirabella, ISBN 0470100875. You may want to get it for free from a library first, and if you like it, buy it.
The reason I find this book interesting is because:
It guides you step by step, with a lot of attention on details.
It has some real insider tips, many of tips you never thought to even have existed.
Please check it out, and tell me what you think. I would be specially thankful to hear what Fraudia bhai, Umer, and Dushwari have to say.
hi Jayzee,
a very good thread topic.
on line teaching has its pluses and minuses.
i wont ever think that it is a substitute for he in person method of inquiry that a good teacher uses to teach students.
how ever, in the current times, when CEU and CME is so common for professionals, in academic and medical research and practice, it is important to have a monitored on line tutoring service available with set hours of real time communication between a teacher and a small group of students.
with the advent pf portable documents and ready access of journal db s on line, it is easier and more structured to find resources at basically one computer screen with web access.
yet, the research aspect cant be completed without field work.
also, going to a library and actually research books and periodicals can never be undermined in comparison to on line availability of readable content.
that said, there are many on line services available for tutoring help to students where, for experienced teachers, getting help to students is enabled and they might even get paid for that.
it depends who wants to work out of a home office or on a laptop, and teach like that. part time work in such context, for instance.
normal tutoring help via online teaching systems, is fine, if one is tutoring to high school students and early college students (avoiding at all costs, doing their work for them because then
they will not learn anything on their own), or professionals have a self study as well as infrequent on line discussions about theory and practice of a given field.
but, it is not a reliable source of income. unless people are really experts in providing support to writing a huge document such as a PhD dissertation.
and ethically, to me, someone else writing a dissertation for somebody kills the originality of the effort put forth in that work.
hope this helps.
best,
Dushwari
