Re: Goodbye Champions.
They are not young. They are both atleast 19. Imran, Wasim and Waqar all made their debuts at that age.
Re: Goodbye Champions.
Coming back to the topic Warne and Mcgrath are two giants of the game and will be sadly missed. Whatever we say about the invincibility of the Australian team they will find it very hard to replace such talent and it will show.
Again like you I don't want to hijack this thread. Yes Inzi has contributed immensely to Pakistan cricket but lately he has become over-bearing and fallen too easily into a defensive and negative mindset. This is evident in the kinds of pitches that Pakistan have prepared under his leadership and in some of the team selections (for instance his persistence with Sami and Razzaq in tests and Rao 'the very ordinary' Iftikhar Anjum in ODIs). He has shown little or no interest in grooming young players for the future and that in my view is his biggest failing. It's almost like he's uncomfortable with the idea of having new faces in the squad. The reinstatement of old buddy Mushtaq Ahmed is evidence enough that Inzi is pulling all the strings. He's no Imran and he should stop trying to emulate him.
Re: Goodbye Champions.
^ Butt, Farhat, Hafeez, Malik, Hameed were all groomed under his leadership. That these players failed to deliver is not Inzi's fault. Open a new thread if you want to discuss this issue.
Conservative nature of current PCB/Inzi
^ But none of these players 'debuted' in Inzi's period, they had played atleast Test cricket before that.
Is there any player who got cap in Inzi's tenure?
There are so many players knocking on the door but the conservative nature of our current tank turns them away, is this the way to improve cricket? is this going to help in 'future' plans? Or 'future plans' should be just abandoned and keep playing the old tried and tested ones?
Re: Conservative nature of current PCB/Inzi
Now merged :D
Re: Goodbye Champions.
All these youngsters were groomed and allowed test career under Rashid Latif as Captain (for most) and Aamir Suhail as cheif selector. I think Bari and Inzi are too defensive and selfish to some extent.
Re: Goodbye Champions.
Trouble is neither of them is Wasim or Waqar. I dont think either of them has lit up the domestic scene with their bowling. I would wait for a couple of years more for them to mature rather than sending them in half baked and shooting their confidence when they get tonked for boundaries in international cricket.
Re: Goodbye Champions.
Incorrect statement. No one had heard of Wasim b4 he got a chance with the national selectors, Waqar had schooled in the UAE therefore little exposure to Pak domestic cricket but was able to make a quick impression because atthat time Pak cricket welcomed new talent, not like this bunch that relies on personal vetting.
Re: Conservative nature of current PCB/Inzi
The young guns Inzi introduced are our great Rao Iftikhar Anjum, and the legendry and still young, Arshad Khan ![]()
ok well on a serious note, Abdul Rehman got his cap under Inzi, also Asim Kamal and Asif as well, even though Inzi wasnt playing the matches they debuted in. But I do agree with your statement, theres a lot of young talent knocking the doors, but Inzi hasnt been giving the chances, perfect example, Samiullah. People who keep getting chances, Farhat, Hameed, Rao, etc.
Re: Conservative nature of current PCB/Inzi
It is not a case of their debuts but who groomed them and all these players were groomed under Inzi's captaincty.
Re: Conservative nature of current PCB/Inzi
Do you call it grooming if you play a player and then drop him, unlike Dravid who will trust Jaffer and he will respond in the 7th innings with a century.
We all saw how much Inzi groomed Butt, Farhat, Yasir, Faisal, Bazid, Asim on and on.
Re: Conservative nature of current PCB/Inzi
Well if you don't perform what are you supposed to do. You know what, people on this board are the first one to winge and cry as soon as a guy fails and they want him hanged. So why blame Inzi only. You perform you stay in the team, you fail you get dropped. I find it incredible that on one hand we accuse him of not intorducing and grooming new players on the other if he persisit we moanthat he is not bringing in new players. What exactly do we want? I suppose just moan moan and moan that is all we want and do.
Re: Conservative nature of current PCB/Inzi
unfortunately international cricket has become so demanding that audience ,media and selectors all want results right away when they introduce new players into the team. If they perform we all say why they were not given the chance, and if they don't we are the first ones who want them to be kicked out. look at monty, when he was droped ,every body blamed england's defeat on his exclusion. now what has he done after his first test we all know.soon every one will be asking giles back.
The point is Inzi is getting close to the end of his career and as such doesn't want to take chances. i think he is the most conservative of all the captions that we had. he may have given more chances to the batsman but as far as bowlers are concerned i doubt he has done justice.players like Sami ,Razzak Rao have gotten too many chances and new commers like Niazi, Anwar Ali etc should have been given a chance by now. this is the right age to groom them.
