ISLAMABAD: A 12-member parliamentary committee, headed by federal minister Syed Khurshid Shah, reached consensus on Justice (retd) Fakhruddin G Ebrahim’s name out of six nominees as the head of the Election Commission of Pakistan, Express News reported on Monday.

Ebrahim was one of the three names nominated by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). Justice (retd) Nasim Sikander and acting CEC Justice Shakirullah Jan were the other two nominated by the party.

The government had recommended Justice (retd) Munir A Sheikh, Justice (retd) Amirulmulk Mengal and Justice (retd) Qurban Ali.

Justice Ebrahim’s selection documents will be forwarded to Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf.

The deadlock seems to have broken as the parliamentary panel has agreed on Fakhruddin G Ebrahim as the CEC who will oversee a make-or-break election in a few months time.

Fakhru bhai enjoys a good reputation in the political circle of the country and a consensus on his name bodes well for the system and now one can genuinely hope for transparency in the upcoming elections.

But we still have to see what other parties, especially PTI, have to say about this development. An across-the-board go-ahead for Fakhru bhai would be vital for free and fair elections.

I think IK had proposed Fakhruddin G Ibrahim as the CEC, he has a good reputation.

Re: Consensus emerges on new CEC

^ That's really good. But I was wondering as to how PPP agreed on him as he has been very vocal against the government of late. Maybe his association with the PPP in ZAB and BB's times came handy. Having said that, he is definitely a great choice for such an important task. I hope JI and JUI also come out in favour of Fakhru bhai so the broader political spectrum stands united for him.

Consensus on Fakhruddin G Ibraheem as new CEC

Re: Consensus emerges on new CEC

PPP would be okay and would continue getting votes as long as literacy rate in Pakistan remains well under control.

Re: Consensus emerges on new CEC

Good usage of “under control” :cb:

Frankly speaking, I would like to give credit to PPP for taking a bold step of agreeing on Fakhru bhai despite the fact that he has been speaking his mind over different issues related to corruption, mis-governance, dual office of the president, NRO and letter to Swiss authorities.

Re: Consensus emerges on new CEC

Excellent choice :k:

Re: Consensus emerges on new CEC

There must be something with it... PPPP govt cannot take/make sensible decision....

Re: Consensus emerges on new CEC

as i said above, PPP cannot make sensible decisions…

here is why they agreed on the new CEC… have they issued a notification yet, no they have not…

NA passed contempt of court law 2012

as per this law, PMs, CM, Ministers, and every other person criticizing Judges have got immunity… moreover, insulting a judge does not mean scandalizing the SC…

So RAJA is saved, So is the ministers, and so is the Riaz Malik!!!

Zinda hay Bhutto Zinda hay!!!

Re: Consensus emerges on new CEC

Zardari is not a Bhutto .
He has skill to live alive with Kiani
I have said many time earlier
Raja is from Pindi and Malik Riaz have 12 on his official payroll .
They are not from South Punjab or rest of Pakistan .
And they can not attack on Sc because they are not from Lahore .
They opted the legal way .
Not good but was there any other option left
After that all which has been done with Gailani and Makhdoom Shahabuddin .
