[font=Courier New]The learned free lance columnist Mr. Ardeshir Cowasjee in his column 17.4.2005 entitled “A woman in their lives” narrated how retired Brigadier A.S. Nasir Controller of Karachi Building Control Authority wrote to Chief Minister Sindh for another year extension in service. The City Nazim who was the first bridge under through proper channel under so called pressure recommended this extension. The City Nazim is a dire member of Jamat-e-Islami who call themselves as Momineen. According to my knowledge a true Muslim and a man honest in his service is never afraid of any pressures and do what his conscious says. Jamat-e-Islami people keep crying over General Musharraf that he was doing illegal things like two seats. General Musharraf is doing this to secure his chair. The city Nazim by recommending a person which under the law cannot be given extension thus in fact itself did this to keep his chair secured. If General Musharraf is doing a “gunah” then city nazim has done “gunah-e-azeem” because not only he is custodian of peoples trust as elected representative but has as an Advocate taken oath to act for the supermecy of law and law does not allow extension. The Governor of Sindh against whom there are different court cases also wished this Controller extension. At each level the application passed with recommendation to appease the Chief Minister. There came only one obstacle. The Sindh Secretary Services Ms. Nargis Ghaloo made a full summary on this extension request. She quoted the government rules which restricted extension. She quoted how this man had already got many extensions and was in 8th year of extension. She quoted he was of 68 years and there was no example in Pakistan civil service history keeping a man of such an age. She quoted government rule that a person can maximum get two years extension after retirement. She gave reference of President and Prime Minister’s repeated slogan that no one will be given extension. She finally recommended No Extension to the Controller. When her summary reached to Chief Minister he got annoyed, immediately granted extension and removed the lady from her seat making her Officer On Special Duty which in fact is a sort of punishment given either to corrupt pending so-called enquiry or to a true honest officer who obeying his conscious do not subscribe or refuses to become a part of corruption. I have always believed that good people in every field still are amongst us and they are in majority. They are only depressed and we do not know about them much. I salute this sister Nargis Ghaloo. I have in writing addressed a letter of my appreciation for her to the Sindh Chief Minister who is angry with her. I wish every right conscious person who loves his children and care for our future generations writes and expresses his feelings and appreciation at [email protected] for a righteous officer like Nargis. There is no need I think to express thanks to Mr. Ardeshir Cowajsee for making the general public aware of such things because our eagerly awaiting him every Sunday in itself speaks of our gratitude for him. General Musharraf a week ago said poverty and unemployment in the country has reduced. He is not wrong. It is a fact a section of society within nights have become richer and no body know from where such big buck came. Of course their poverty has reduced. Unemployment has also reduced. The proof is one can see Controller Nasar has not been made unemployed which is a proof that unemployment is reducing.[font=‘Bookman Old Style’]Reading the above article an Indian national Anil Saxena from New Delhi wrote to Cowasjee that Pakistani Miss Ghaloo would be happy to know that she has a counterpart in India famous Ms. Kiran Bedi. Cowasjee further writes that reputed Kunwar Idris ex Chief Secretary of Sindh wrote to him that in addition to Miss Nargis Ghaloo there are two other women officers to whom if the Sindh administration is given the Province would be far more satisfactory run than it now is..
