Once upon a time, such individuals were called Siamese Twins. There wasn’t any hope for them. But now, thanks to the advances medicine has taken, it has become possible to separate such individuals.
But what happens initially when you learn that you have a conjoined baby? What goes through the minds of the mother, father, the family, the hospital staff? And there are sooo many types of them! Any combination you can possibly think of. Some babies who are simply joined at the hip by some muscle and skin. Others who share organs, eyes, brains, important blood vessels. I just read about a 2 headed baby born in Indonesia. What do you do in that situation?
There was this mother on Oprah some years ago…an Egyption woman. She had technically triplets. Only 2 of them had the necessary organs to live as individuals. The other one was just a head, who cried, smiled. There was no other option for that baby…if you count it as a baby. They even named her.
So I was just wondering, do you know of such special cases? What would happen if something like that happened to you, as mothers or father (I pray to Allah you don’t have to go through such an ordeal).
