On a side note, we should give India its due comments as well.. India is no.1 in Test cricket now.. This is abig feast in it self.

That is surprising - would never have thought Kaneria had more wickets than Saqlain. Maybe because Saqlain had to bowl with Wasim and Waqar and therefore share the wickets, while Kaneria didnt have the same competition?

Stats however do not always tell the whole story

Abdul Qadir remains, by a distance, the best spinner produced by Pakistan

I guess for rule of thumb, anything Avg under 30 after this long make you a great bowler ....

I guess Saqlain was more popular due to his bowling in ODI when he used to not only stop runs at death but get wickets too while Kaneria leak runs

The more important reason being that is was the "world class leggie" in that period. He was the one to whom the likes of warne looked towards.

And another reason why Mr. Kaneria is not chosed in ODIs - he gets hit for a lot of runs...

That is Kaneria's big weakness, giving away runs. Maybe that's why you can't compare him with Saqi, or Mushi. But hats off to Kaneria for his determination.

True. Abdul Qadir was a true match winner.

You two are confusing "Average" with "Economy Rate". His higher "Average" (runs conceded/wicket) is only because of having to bowl more overs on subcontinental pitches. Kaneria typically bowls 30-40 overs per innings. Pakistan, in the last 8-10 years, hasn't had many spinner friendly wickets. In fact, the slow-turning wickets are the death of spinners. Despite this, his "Strike Rate" (number of balls bowled per wicket), is the same as Saqlain's and much better than Abdul Qadir's. His "Economy Rate" (runs conceded/over), which is a true measure of a bowler's miserliness, is better than Waqar Younis's.

Another point to note is that Shane Warne is a legend, there's no use comparing anyone with Warne. Having said this, however in the 2004/05 tour of Australia, Kaneria went head-to-head with Warne and got MORE WICKETS than Warne. This takes even more significance because Australia's batting lineup was much much stronger than Pakistan's.

So I wouldn't discount Kaneria's achievement. Being the fourth highest all time wicket taker is no mean accomplishment.. considering the three bowlers above him on the list are Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and Imran Khan.

We shouldn’t neglect the efforts of Danesh in helping restrict the kiwis to a 248 lead, it could have been much worse - He has been great on this tour and I really hope that he will continue to bewilder the aussies as well - although they play spin better than kiwis…

Wow what a great haul - 7 wickets - although it could have been 8 if ulloo Farhat and young aamer did not drop that school boy catch…
