It is not increased, it is only 'corrected'
The smily limit is intact, and is still 8 as it was before :D
Only in the previous version due to some bug we could only post 7 instead of 8 smilies.

I don't think that was a bug. Your avatar used to count as a smiley, which made it the 8th smiley in addition to the 7 you posted in the previous version.
