Tendulkar crosses 13,000 runs **

March 16, 2004 21:29 IST

Sachin Tendulkar crossed yet another milestone in his glittering career when he completed 13,000 runs in One-Day Internationals during the second one-dayer against Pakistan in Rawalpindi on Tuesday.

The 30-year-old batting genius, the highest run-getter in the shorter version of the game, reached the landmark when he scored 51 runs during India’s innings.

Playing in his 330th match, Tendulkar flicked Mohammad Sami to the deep backward square region for a single in the day-night tie to reach the milestone.

Tendulkar has scored his runs at an average of nearly 45 and leads the pack of highest ODI run-getters by a mile.

Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul Haq is placed 3,422 runs behind Tendulkar on 9,607 from 309 matches.

Former Indian captain Mohd Azharuddin is third with 9,378 runs from 334 matches at an average of 36.92.

Congrats to Sachin. Another great knock today although happily he got out before the daamage became critical for pak supporters :k:

He was just being good guest.

Seriously.. This was a brilliant knock.Considering that stroke making was getting very difficult as the ball was getting older. He ran lots of runs and whenever he found lose ball he played great shots.

Amazing innings by Sachin, despite the fact none of the other kabootars gave him support. :k:

It is also the highest score by an Indian against Pakistan in Pakistan in ODI's.

Yeah Karina, while I was watching the game I thought that none of the other Indians really provided much back up. At least With Pak both Afridi and Yaasir stood up to be counted. But I think most of our othe batsmen found it hard going too.

Congratz to 10dulkar !

The most talented batsman in the world :k:

Congratz to Tendi. He sure is the best batsman of the world.

Hats off. Though I wanted him to get out on duck  , but that ziddi guy stood so long. Anyway, congrats to him for yet another milestone :k:

Tendulkar pulled the match off alone. Had any batsmen{Kaif, Dravid, Yuray and Ganguly} stayed on the crease as long as Sachin did, India had won it convincely.

The match was sure a cracker, and I congrat Tendulkar to reach the milestone on Pakistan soil. :)

Hats off to Tendulkar, says Pakistan skipper Inzamam
By Abdul Waheed

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan (Reuters) - Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq heaped praise on Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar, who scored a brilliant 141 in the second one-day international on Tuesday.

“There is no doubt about his talent. He is the best batsman in the world today,” Inzamam said after his team beat India by 12 runs.

“He thoroughly deserves the honour of being the first to score 13,000 runs in one-dayers.”

Despite Tendulkar’s innings, Pakistan squared the series 1-1 after losing the first match at Karachi by five runs in a thrilling finale.

“The amount of hard work he’s put in for this landmark is amazing. I don’t think it’s easy to achieve this milestone. It takes a long time to get there,” said Inzamam, second on the all-time one-day list with 9,607 runs.

Inzamam described the pitch, on which Pakistan scored 329 for six and India replied with 317, as a batting paradise.

“I think the amount of runs scored on it are a clear indication that it was not a bad pitch to bat on,” he said.

Tendulkar said his century would have carried greater value if his team had won.

“It wasn’t an easy track to bat chasing a big total under lights,” he told reporters.

“The ball stopped and came on slow. You had to be selective in your shots. Their bowlers did pretty well and pushed the ball through and made it difficult for us.”

Tendulkar said that he was unaware that he had reached 13,000 till after he was dismissed in the 39th over,

The Indian also said he was happy to score a century in Pakistan, where he made his debut in 1989.

“I’m feeling very good being back in Pakistan. The hospitality is great and I’m enjoying it,” he said.

What the hell? The team scored 300 + and TEndulkalr scored 140 and yet Ganguly and tendu claimed it is as a difficult wicket to play on? oh yeah I forgot ..Tendulkar was on his way to score his umpteenth double century but poor guy couldn't do so because of a "difficult" pitch and great and quick bowling by Pakistanis... bohooo . Give me a break..such statements are just a popularity stunt to prove to their naive indian fans how invincible they are!!masoom ppl like F&B fall into their traps. I gotta admit Indians played really well but excuses won't take them anywhere.

Sachin made 141 in 135 balls , he was out when team score was 245 (57% of team score). India needed 85 runs from 68 balls.

I know there are lot of tendulkar bashers all over (not only gupshup) ..... every one says he is not a match finisher / winner. I really dont know, what they actually want him to do ..... score 25o runs ..... stay there for 50 overs ..............

Razzaq is right behind Tendulkar… all he needs is a 1 on the left of his career aggregate :hehe:

Great inning by a genius. He did his job well and at one time match was in india's hand. Anyways it was a great match.

Yeah. The guy is phenomenal. Just Like Inzimam in the previous match he produced a match-winning knock which wasn't capitalised on by lesser mortals batting afterwards.

It surely was a gem of an innings, he needed support from there, other wise, result would have been different. Its always difficult to play under lights, but that guy is getting better and better.
