We were discussing this, trying to analyse the nature of the relationship between Shahrukh Khan and Madhuri in this movie. Its the deepest point of the whole movie I believe.
Till the end Shahrukh loves Aishwariya right? Then where did Madhuri fit into the picture? She loved him but did he ALSO love her? Is it possible to love two people at the same time? Was he just taking pity on her? He certainly did not treat her nicely. If you watched the last scene where he was leaving and saying bye to Madhuri, didn’t he pretty much tell her he loved her? But then what was he going to Aishwariya for?
Someone please shed some light on this :halo: shukran
And while we’re at it, what is your opinion about how Shahrukh Khan wasted his life over his supposed love for Ash? He just let himself decay, isn’t that very very wrong? Yet why does it make him look like a noble martyr?
I dont think it was Parro he decayed for. I think it was the thought of defeat. A disturbed childhood and torchered personality leads to this kinda behavior. I dont think Love had much to do with it.
In Meadhuri there were two things.. she wanted him, her being of the social standing that she was… Devdas got to rebel against society all the while never wanting to let go of his zid for Ash. And there was a peculiar bonding between Madhuri and Devdas..both tortured and turned away from the world.
Overall, Devdas was a selfish fool, who did nothing for love.
If he really did love either one of them he would have married Madhuri and left Ash alone instead of igniting her feelings over and over, and pretty much being responsible for her gettingmarried off in such a hurry.
i dont see any reason for his character being glamorised or idolised at all!
i dont get these naakaam majnoos who spend their whole lives in memory of their past loves i mean why didnt they act at the right time and get married to the ppl they loved? and if they dint then atleast live your life now and let that person live theirs
i dont see why if he loved Ash he dint marry her…? I mean if he REALLY loved her he would have married her, isnt true love supposed to overcome all obstacles?
waise u think Madhuri wanted him because of her bad social standing…? hmmm you think she wanted him to marry her just so she could redeem herself? i dont think so yaar. thats selfishness thats not love is it? i think she truly loved him and cared for him, dont u think..?
oh hon .. i think you misunderstood me on that part. I agree madhuri loved him.. he used her to rebel against society becuase she was a prostitute. I think that was a huge part of his infatuation with her.
BTW love you too.. I've been dying to discuss ths with someone.

Muniya yaar he used her to rebel against society? u think he liked her because she was a rebel and he was too and that attracted him?
hmmmmmmm
the last scene when he says bye to madhuri is really confusing b.c he says in next janam he wants to be with her ...but i dont get it coz he could have been with her in this janam too...why was he going after Ash at that point...why dint he just stay with madhuri?
u do think he was infatuated with her in the end?
my thinking is k he liked her in the end coz he felt sorry for her coz she was so madly in love with him and he felt bad and reciprocated out of pity and realised she was good for him too coz she took so much care of him...what do u think?
and madhuri knew she was number two haena? but it looked like she was desperate to be with him and she dint care what he did to her and even if she was number two she still wanted to be with him..
i know i so badly want to understand this whole story...its been bothering me on and off ever since i saw this movie!!! ive discussed it with so many ppl but abhee tak baat sahi se samaj nai aai
abhee im going out of the office driver waiting neechay lekin will check this thread from home and reply
hope u r doing well :) have a good day at the office
I think he was rebelling by being with her (since being with a pros. isnt good).
But I have to agree with you on the last scene though. I think his love/infatuation whatever it was for him was partially because he felt sorry for her and he understood how it feels when you love someone you cant have. :k::k: on that.
Loving two people @ the same time is quite possible. If you see Ash and Madhuri, their characters were totally oppositte.
Ash was this free spirited girl who said whatever was on her mind and did whatever was on her mind disregarding any authority and her ego was huge which clashed with Shahrukh's ego which made the two quite compatible.
Where as Madhuri, forgetting for a mo her profession, she was gentle, kind and mature. She provided him with that strong pillar of support, she let him know that she is there no matter what. He needed that. Inside he was this little child lost who needed a finger to hold on to.
You can love two ppl at the same time, chosing which one you want is the hardest part.
uff aik toh what was his problem? i mean why does he have to be a rebel just for being a rebel? i think it comes back to ur point of him having a not so good childhood...
one last thought wanted to share wid u...
this is my friend's analysis
devdas dint really love paro or madhuri...he was just stubborn...
he was too selfish and selfish ppl cant love anybody
if he really loved ash he would have married her [agreed]. i mean he was the guy he could have done it! he just chickened out at the point it seems, what was stopping him? did anything else matter except that ash loved him too? why could he than not make it happen? bah
ash was just his zidd
and the next thing is, this movie symbolises the true male spirit of being unable to be faithful to one person at one time...at the end he liked both ash and madhuri...its just not in the male makeup to be faithful only to one? [would u agree...? i dont know cant say but i prefer not to for the sake of optimism :D ]
Anchal hon.. its called being confused. Yes you can love two people in different ways but I dont think I would ever be confused about who I wanted to marry. I think if you romantic life is completly fulfilling which it should be, then you look no where else.
In the case of Devdas.. had be married Parro I doubt he would have ended up at a khotah.. nahee? It was his lack of Parro that led him to Madhuri's open arms. Totally see you on the point of her being a pillar of support.. ok people back to work I go. :)
she was an idiot for the way she handled everything
as for madhuri...if you recall, there is a scene in there when he leaves or something where he tells her that they will surely be together in another life...i think he was touched by her love for him...
what normal man (or even woman) would throw EVERYTHING away just because of something like that?
I thought Devdas was a beautiful movie, but the movie just made me angry...his charcter was just UGGGHH
Madhuri was my favorite even if she was prostitute..

714 - madhuri was my favorite too and i liked jacki shroff's character too, he was funny n sweet hayna? ...i just felt so bad for the poor girl....i dont think she deserved a jerk a like shahrukh who dint appreciate her and treated her so badly...
THATS another point though...did madhuri like him so much just coz he was impossible to get? u knowwwwwwwww!!! was that what made him look attractive to her?
she was also stupid yaar...when she is seeing k he's not treating her right, then why is she still running after him?
and yes i agree with u, shahrukh's character was soooooo ugh!!!!
I think Devdas knew he was about to die and when saying his farwells to Madhuri he I believe felt pity for her and said he loved her when in reality he didn't. It was the least he could do for her since she loved him so much.
I thought Jackie's character was annoying as anything! arughhh! He had no point of being in the movie, period.
I think Devdas' character was sad. Though drowning yourself in alcohol for love is not a very good idea, yt Devdas did it because he wanted to forget the fact that he has lost the lvoe of his life. Another thing, Devdas lost Paro because of his own foolishness...he left her bcoz of his father, and when he realised he has done wrong, it was too late...so he was also punishing himself for his mistakes by drinking and living with a prostitute.
As for falling in love with Chandrmukhi, i think he did fall in love with her. He accepted her love at the end and gave her his, BUT only after he saw Paro's kangan on her hand. Also, when he's leaving Chandrmukhi he says to himself that "if we ever meet in the afterlife, its true that i wont be able to live without you"....but the reason he left her and went to Paro is that he had prmised her that he wud go to her once before he dies...and he knew that he was about to die...and just keeping a promise of a lost love, he goes to meet her.
Yes, it is stupid to waste your life like that....but he ruined his life by making the wrong choices...and he wanted to punish himself...
