Are there any areas in Punjab where the children call their father Chacha?

Reading Mustansar Hussain Tarar’s novel and there are many characters who refer their father as chacha? :konfused:

So you are not aware of Punjabiculture of calling father 'chacha'. BTW, which particular area of punjab, your family belong?

hain??? neva heard of it… ppl call thier chachu or sum other uncle like dad’s frnd or cxn chacha.. but calling thier father chacha.. :no:

Ok.. May be its not common in all Punjabi areas. I forgot to mention that the charcters belong to Jat families who live in villages on banks of river chenab

hmm.. in our area there r thory sy jat .. to is liye dnt knw :bummer:.. i had a frnd she was jatt.. but she used to call her father as papa..

kuch joint families main is trah k issues hotey hn msln meri khala ko un k apney bechay baji keh kr bulatey hn kion k wo joint family main rehtay hn or wo sb se bray bhai ki wife hn to sb log ehtram se un ko baji kehtay thay ab bechay b doosron ki dekha dekhi yehi kehnay lg pray.

I havent heard about the chachas that you are talking about,

but my father and uncles used to call my grand father as "Bao jee" and mother as "Aapa jee" dont know how this start but this isnt a cultural thing as well. Maybe varies in individual families.

It is mostly in joint family, my saas is called ammaji by her people in Baramulla, we also call her ammaji here, and even my kids call her ammaji, recently even chowkidar started calling he ammaji:D

Ali thanks to bollywood I know bao jee is a common for calling fathers in rular India. Aapa Jee (though mostly used for elder sister) is also not shocking for me, as I also heard that used by some persons.

In my nanihal all people (elders and younger one) call my Ammi 'Baji'. Even her elder sister sometimes refer her as Baji :)

I think the term 'chacha' for father was common in Gujarat (Punjab), the land of Sohni Mehwal and Chohdri Shuja'at :D
