Confused

Which one is maash ki daal? I know it’s black, I need a description of what it looks like.

p.s. my mommy’s in a meeting, I can’t get a hold of her. :bummer:

You guys are useless!! I already made the stupid daal, and if it turns out to be something other than maash, then it's all your fault!

maash is daal is black? isn’t that masoor ki daal? ya phir saabut kaaley masoor :stuck_out_tongue:  :stuck_out_tongue:

I have no idea :frowning: I thought it was black, the thing is they all look different once they’re cooked, to me.

The only ones I can tell are kaalay chanay.

lol maash daal is white looking uncooked and yellow when cooked, often dry..kinda resembles grains of rice

long, ovalish, pale yellow

nooooooooooo! It’s black!! My mom verified it. This black ovalish daal with a whitish dot. No it’s not kidney beans! They use it in daal makhni. We call it maah di daal.

Thanks for nothing you all!

The daal you guys just described is golden daal, or that’s what I call it. I can identify that one.

^ thats not mash ki daal... u may be talking about "maung" ki daal.. i dont know how to spell it..

how did it turn out? dry or more like a soup? maash ki daal is generally dry, and as someone said, resembles thick rice

Moong? Are you sure! Gosh, I can never get my daals right. I rang up my dad today and asked what he felt like eating and he said maash. I know how to cook most of the daals, I just don't know their names...hence my dilemma. It looks fine, no one's home to eat it yet. I didn't make it too dry, that's not how my dad likes it. I taste checked and I'm still alive...so it's all good ;)

Lets stick to calling it golden daal please, shall we. And this one, black ovalish daal!

kaalay chanay… hai allah :nuch:

hayaa, yeah i just go by the colour of the daals. It's prob mong ki daal or that other kali daal (dont know the proper name)

Romeo, I make really good kaalay chanay, my brother's friends swarm the house when I make 'em. ;-)

If you keep dancing like that, I may courier you some one day!

As long as it tastes well, who cares what the name of daal is?

Does he have to keep dancing until then, or can he stop?

^ hahaa..i think he's pretty good at that..so won't be a problem..

so hayaa, what wud it take to make some of these special kalay chanaays...some of us only have heard of these delicacies you know.. :D

Maash ki daal or Maah di daal (without chilka) = Urud Daal (beige color)
With chilka it looks black.

hayaa, wait till you see meray long da lashkara

PS-
dekho, if there is one authority on making kalay channay in North America then it’s only yours truly :snooty:. Rest strive in the very puddle they call kaalay channay. :mocking:

It's yellow in colour. Is it?

No ceebs he’s gotta keep dancing! But apparently he ‘thinks’ he can outdo my kaalay chanay, we’ll see about that!

Outy, all you gotta do is ask, I won’t even make you shake your booty for me. see how nice I am?

Goodness, now there is urad! What’s with all these weird ass names, I am sticking to a colour/shape name basis and that’s that!

Romeo, I am tempted to believe you after having witnessed your recent fascination with horses. And you know what they say, kaalay chanay is ‘ghorriyaan di khoraak.’
But I still make it better. :snooty:

you can see the names and descriptions of most of tha daals and their pics here
