I know I mentioned a few months back in a post about my husband’s brother and his wife. I mentioned his wife as being very distant with me and my husband. For no real reason but that’s how her personality is. Well, she was pregnant and gave birth to a baby girl this morning.
Now, the confusing part is… they announced their daughter’s name and they named their daughter AMANI. Well, my daughter’s almost 2 and her name is IMAN. Also, coincidently both girls are born in the same month (days apart but my daughter is older by 2 years). My daughter is turning 2 years old next week. Their daughter was just born today. Same month of birth, similar sounding names…Hmmmmm…
…is this weird or am I just making a big deal out of nothing ??? Please help me figure this out.
hehe thats funny :) dont worry too much about it.. she probably just really liked ur daughters name.. or really liked Imani... who knows
my friend has two daughters and their middle names are Maryum and Iman.. now her cousin is having a baby and she announced she was gonna name her girl either Maryum or Iman.. (she just found she's having a boy now though, Mashallah).. neways my friend was worried too.. but i personally think these names are quite poppular and adorable.. thats probably just it
So, whats the problem? You don't want people to like your kids' name or something? If they named their daughter with a similar name as your daughter that means they like the name a lot and wanted only a slight variation. Send them an extra box of laddus saying you are so happy they named their baby Amani, which is so similar to Iman.
I just think copying of names is a little tacky. Even if they sound similar. And in the same family, thats even more weird...I think. Two first cousins who have similar names. Hmmm...very similar in sound. Both girls...
actually in my family (within first cousins), we have similar sounding names.. ie sobia, sadia, nadia, zahid, shahid and then we have all the abdul salam’s and abdur shakoor’s…
My Aunties were all prgnant around the same time, all had their kids within days, all called them Ibraheem, all all three of them, and its a family joke, don't take it to heart, its just a name, and urs is 2 yrs older anyway.
My chachi had a son and she named him Ali. One of our distance relatives but living close to her (despise my poor chachi for some reason dunno why!!) had her son maybe a few weeks to a month later and named him Ali as well Coincidence - no
1- why do you think that they "copied" you, maybe they liked that name since before tyou had a baby.
2- on the point of "there are a million names why cant they choose another"... if they liked this name, and you happened to name your daughter with a similar name as your daughter, why should it preclude them from giving their kid the name that they wanted to?
who would name their own flesh and blood, judt to despise someone. the love for the kid and the desire to give the kid a name that you like overrides any petty desi mohallay ki buaa type ticky tack grievances.

I can understand what you are feeling.
I myself hate copying of names but I also think that
both Iman and Amani are becoming popular names these days.
It could be just a coincidence that they named their daughter what they did.
