Someone sent me resume to forward it to others if I come across any job opportunity.
Going through the resume, I see grammatical mistakes, like suddenly a word starts with an uppercase when there is no need to use the upper case and there are well known companies and I dont think there is any need to put the entire name instead of the acronym. (think IBM)
Also I read on the internet that one should avoid using term “I” in the resume. This resume has a couple of “I did this, I did that” lines in it.
The person who forwarded the resume also got a couple of interview calls by sending out the same resume so I am not sure if I should advice to work on the resume or just forward it to other people.
Those of you here who interview and go through resumes, does it matter if the content or the individual is good but resume has grammatical mistakes.
I HATE typos in resume, it looks very unprofessional and careless and creates that first impression.
That being said, I've also seen that where someone is applying for a non-writing job, sometimes managers overlook typos and the such in favour of the technical skills.
If you're close enough to the other person and you have the time, suggest some edits to the person and have them correct the resume. For you the problem is that this resume reflects a bit on you as well when you forward it on to someone in your company.
I personally would NOT forward a résumé that doesn't meet basic standards of grammatical accuracy and style consistency. That being said, willy nilly capitalization is something I see very commonly (to emphasize importance etc.) and I usually ignore such things.
On several occasions, I've offered constructive feedback to people who've asked me to forward their résumés. Most people are open and appreciative of this... but you might run into someone who takes offense. Tough luck... you're doing them a favor and by forwarding their résumé, you're vouching for their competence - so they better fix what you're asking them to.
