Confused about lengha :(

Hi guys

I am so confused about my lehnga. Well what it is that my wedding was fixed for December this year about 6 months ago and first thing I did was start looking for a lehnga for both the days as my in laws said I can also choose my walima outfit. For the wedding I got a gorgeus red lehnga with a bit of green and for the walima I chose a light blue with bit of baby pink. Now I bought thease outfits both from Birmingham about two months ago as I fell in love with them as soon as I saw them. Both are **SHORT SHIRTS **with lehnga. Now I don’t have much of a family in pakistan and I don’t know any one who knows whats the ‘in’ thing in pakistan at the moment. I was just browisng the net about weddings and came accross this forum and learnt that how everone is now wearing **LONG SHIRTS WITH THEIR LEHNGAYS. **I also read a thread where people said short shirts are outdated. This really upset me, I paid about £2000 each for the lehngay I have bought and they are non returnable. (Although they are gorgeus) I just feel now everyones not going to look at my lehnga and think ‘wow’ they will just look and think old fashioned. However all the weddings I have been to recently have all had short shirts and I never in my dreams thought it was old fashioned ( Thease are people from pakistan as well who did their walima here) I am quite upset about this and don’t really know what to do. I wish I never came accross this forum :frowning:

What do you think I should do? The new fashion of long shirts is very nice but I do love love the outfits I have already bought.

Does everyone think short shirts are old fashioned (I thought short shirts are like shalwar as in it will never be old fashioned)

Re: Confused about lengha :(

You'll be alright! Just enjoy your wedding.. Long shirts don't always look good on all and vice versa.. there's still lots of people wearing short shirts. You'll be fine, don't fret

Re: Confused about lengha :(

OK first of all, stop freaking out

take a deep breath!

hm..nowadays "long shirts" are more common or "in", therefore, preferred by most!
however, short shirts are not old fashioned!

Its like one of those things, oh its in fashion so everyone has it!, but that doesnt mean that other styles are out of fashion.

its like the skinny jeans and straight leg jeans. Even though skinny jeans are in fashion and mostly wear those. The straight legged are Not old fashioned. (even though bell-bottom ones are old-fashioned)

Re: Confused about lengha :(

If you look hard enough in the bridal form, you will find many brides wearing short shirts!

Re: Confused about lengha :(

dont fret, if yuo love ur outfits so will everybody else, regardless of the short shirts! :)

Re: Confused about lengha :(

i always liked short shirts with lengas! doesnt matter whats in, wear what you like :)

Re: Confused about lengha :(

Hey hun and congrats on ur upcoming wedding :) i would say that reading your post it's pretty clear that you love your wedding outfits so that is the most important thing..secondly even though long shirts are in fashion nowadays in general wear and bridal also, it doesnt necessarily mean that is what you have to go for or that long shirts suit everybody.. My friend recently got married about a month ago and she had short shirts for both her lehnge - barat and valima- she looked amazingly beautiful and not at all outdated.. Its all about what you want and what you are confident and comfortable wearing :) Im sure the lehnge will look great

I for one will probably go for a short shirt too, not too shirt but not really long either, as quite petite and so i know that a long shirt has the potential of dwarfing me! All the best with your preps and wedding, hope it goes amazingly well iA :)

Re: Confused about lengha :(

I believe short shirts with lehngas are something evergreen and never outdated. Longer shirts are a temporary trend. Short shirts always look traditional with lehngas. If you love your lehngas feel proud of them infact you will look more trendy rather than a typical bride these days. Just feel good about it and you will look good too inshAllah. Not everything thats 'in' guarantees that you will look GOOD and if you are shorter or of average height thats a plus point i have always loved short fitted shirts on shorter girls.

Re: Confused about lengha :(

As everyone has already said, go with that YOU like, whether you wear a long or short shirt there will always be one person who will always make a snidey comment, but as long as you love your outfits that's all that matters - and let's not forget the other important person in the wedding here - your groom. I very much doubt a short or long shirt will make much of a difference to him. Just wear your outfit with confidence and you'll look beautiful no matter what :)

Re: Confused about lengha :(

Short shirt with lehnga is like an evergreen thing, though I'm also getting a long a line shirt with lehnga for my barat inshaAllah, but short shirt never gets out of fashion. :)

All the best!

Re: Confused about lengha :(

Lol how strange. This post remind me of me! I bought my outfits in MArch for a November wedding this year, but it has been postponed for February 2011 and darn my luck eveything is long shirts now etc and so I was soooo gutted! However at the same time I love my short kameeza, and the lengha's are beautiful. Plus like everyones said long kameeza are just a temp trend, and in a few months to a year will be out of fashion before you know it! Whereas short kameez tend to stay in trend.

I am short and so I think a long kameez will swamp me. Don't fret and enjoy your wedding day, the day itself is more than just the outfit :)

Re: Confused about lengha :(

In my honest opinion, I think that the long shirt with a lengha looks bad! The entire skirt (or most of it) is covered up.

Stick with your short-topped lenghas and you will be fine!

If I were to shop for my wedding lengha even after knowing what the fashion is right now, I would still get a shorter top.

Re: Confused about lengha :(

It does sound like your in love with your wedding outfits from your post and that should matter! Most brides are wearing short shirts and that doesn't mean they're old fashioned one bit! Short shirts on a wedding lengha will always be in fashion! It's just that new fashions come along but that short shirt fashion will never 'go out'..Most important thing is that YOU feel confident and beautiful as well as comfortable in your outfit! There's more to the outfit that just the short shirt! There's the jewelry make up and shoes!!

Re: Confused about lengha :(

Exactly^

I love the long shirt trend, although it took a while to grow on me. I guess I also like it b/c I'm tallish (5'7") but like everyone said, long shirts don't suit everyone and it def. is a temporary trend. Watch it look outdated in a few months. If you think about it, short shirts have been in since day 1 so it's a safe bet. Just style your dupatta and jewelery in a way to make it look more up-to-date if you feel it'll look outdated.

Re: Confused about lengha :(

Aw you guys are sooo nice! Thank you so much for all the tasalli you have all given me. I feel so much better now. Honestly you lot are really helpful sweet little people :)

Yeh I am happy with my lehngays now. I am about 5'4/5'5 so I guess I could have maybe got away with a longer shirt but the shorter shirt will make me look taller.

Posho, i'm glad you got over it and happy to wear the short shirts. Inshallah you will look gorgeus.

Thank you once again to all the lovely people who took their time out to read my post and make me feel better. xxx
