Conflict in Congo has killed 4.7m, charity says

This must be the most bloody conflict since world war 2? The international community failed Congo like it failed Rwanda.

*A total of 4.7 million people have died as a direct result of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s civil war in the past four and a half years, according to a report released today by the International Rescue Committee, a leading aid agency. *

Re: Conflict in Congo has killed 4.7m, charity says

Now Guardian is concentrating on Congo’s civil war? I thought the hot topic was Iraq these days. I guess their mouths have been shut by the turnout of Iraqis to vote, so now they wana talk about Congo. Tomorrow they will talk about potato prices in Peru. Morons.

Re: Conflict in Congo has killed 4.7m, charity says

the Congo suffered for thirty-two years under the dictator Mobutu Sese Soko and during this time the US supplied more than $300 million in military aid to this nation alone.
http://www.globalissues.org/Geopolitics/Africa/DRC.asp

The US has given arms and military training to all seven armies. Rwanda and Uganda are the US’s key allies in the region and Washington backed their invasion of the Congo, according to Human Rights Watch.

This colonial strategy of initiating internal conflict has resulted in the killing of more than four million Africans and allowed the US, along with the other Western nations, to access Africa’s abundant natural riches in order to enhance their own economies. Nearly 80 per cent of the strategic resources the US requires to propel its economy are found in Africa. Africa also accounts for 18 per cent of US oil imports and this has become the basis of US oil doctrine since 9/11.

Re: Conflict in Congo has killed 4.7m, charity says

So the supporters of the Great Satan want to forget or make fun of the fact that 4.7 million people have died in the war in Congo. What humanity is this?

Re: Conflict in Congo has killed 4.7m, charity says

Supporters of who? Great Satan? What does Iran have to do with this thread? I thought we were blaming the US for the conflict in Congo.
