Not necessarily. First off you could be in a top notch program, and if you just aren't that intelligent, you wont graduate with a decent rank and GPA anyway. If you think anyone wants a 1.9'er from Harvard, you've gotta be joking.
If you know your study habits are not good, Harvard should not be where you ought to be looking. There is something called "playing it safe".
Also, if your work skills are not good...hey, you might get the job because you went to Yale and did your MBA there or wherever. But if you think you'll last a week at the job by making silly mistakes and being unproffessional in your manners/attitude/work ethic, then I don't agree with you.
Good schools help you open doors. The rest is still up to your own effort and work quality. There are plenty of people out there who went to IVY's and ruined themselves somehow by screwing up on the job somehow.
Doing any degree from a Tier 2 school will at least put butter on your table. And its a safe play, esp. if you can get a scholarship.
You can always work your way up from the bottom. If you're in beautiful Amrika that is. Anywhere else, I can't speak for.
