Computer screens

What are the effects of looking at a computer monitor all day? I notice that sometimes my eyes feel dry.

Re: Computer screens

Well, you reduce your eyesight, for one. Sometimes it is hard to immediately look around and see anything else without blinking or giving your eyes a rest for about 3-5 seconds. The brain gets used to see moving objects on screen, and when you look at static real-life objects even up-close, it does not fit into your 'memory' (vision) right away. It really is bothering to look at 'em for an excess period of time, the vision goes down the drain.

Re: Computer screens

Try looking at at far distance after couple of minutes of staring at the screen.

Re: Computer screens

^ yes. Thats the best way to keep your eyes healthy. Focus on things far away like something on the ceiling.

Re: Computer screens

I feel my eyesight is deteriorating by the day -

Re: Computer screens

And never look at the computer screen with the lights off, in a dark room. The flare is really bad for our eyes.

Re: Computer screens

i got the glare reduction screen for my computer at work. u can also try looking away every few minutes to reduce the stress on the eyes. other than that....its pretty much harmful to the eyes yah....
sitting for 8 hrs 5 days straight is bad for u period. the human body isnt meant to be cooped up in a cublicle for long periods. watch us evolve into sluggish, pasty, vitamin d deficient beings :(

Re: Computer screens

Use some moisturizing artificial tears they are sold over the counter.

Re: Computer screens

It is true that if you sit all the time in front of your computer screen then your eyes must be dry and you can lose your eyesight and if you do following things then you can save your eyesight:
1: Wash your eye every 2 hours
2: do not rub your eyes
3: never focus your eyes on screen for more than 15 minutes.
4: do some other work and moves your eye to green fields

Re: Computer screens

Stress, dryness are common drawbacks. I use artificial tears after slight deterioration of vision due to change of screen and overall weakness.

Another danger which is usually not mentioned much is ‘Closed-Angle Glaucoma’ which can be triggered in places like cinema or watching screen in a dark place.

Re: Computer screens

Now after 10 years, replace computer monitors with mobile screens.
Look at yourself, re-read the thread and decide.

Re: Computer screens

It all depends on your sitting style and the distance from computer as majority people use protective glass sheet in front of their computer screens just to stay safe from the dangerous rays of your computer screens.

Looking at computer screens for a long time without blinking can cause a lot of eye problems. Most people while looking at the screen forget to blink. The doctor usually prescribes tear drops for the eyes. Though, it is advised to consult a doctor before using any medication.
